Brooklyn Bolts and the FXFL

Just heard some great news that it looks like the FXFL will be gearing up for season 2 next September.
I will keep you all informed if you are interested.
The FXFL is an experimental football league which takes players from NFL rosters who have been waived and offers them a chance to stay in game shape in case they can get re-signed by their team or another NFL team.
I am a defensive assistant for the Brooklyn Bolts who has 3 former Jets on their coaching staff.
The former Jets include Marvin Jones, John Bock and James Brown. We were the only team with an all retired NFL alumni coaching staff. ( except for myself)
We play our home games in Coney Island and assure you the level of play is above college level.
Inbox me if you want any more information. It's Friday night football at it's finest.

Very cool. I thought they were going to play on Wednesday so they wouldn't clash with high school football? Guess not

How did they do in attendance this year? I think the premise of the FXFL is one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time. Wish they had a team near me.

Is there any plans to expand?

We did well in Coney Island. Our attendance doubled each home game. Had around 3500 at the final game.
I am supposed to have a meeting with the league commish hopefully within a month or 2. I'll let you know what changes he has made.
We led the league in attendance. We went up to Boston and there were maybe 75 people there that night. Florida never had a stadium, so they played only road games. And Omaha had a decent turnout at their home games. Nothing like us. Fl green, you are in Florida I take it?
Florida got the short end of the stick in this league. But, I have to tell you they were competitive, they had Tim Hightower from the Cardinals and man, he was a beast. They stuck us for 2 shovel passes so we adjusted and on the 3rd, we turned it into a pick 6. We made the Sports Center top 10 plays that night. Scored 3 TD in 2 min or so.

This is such a great story...........tell them people in virginia love football and the only thing you have to compete with are the Hokies of va tech.

Hope they get their act together because like I said, I think this is a great idea, but needs support from the NFL (much like minor league baseball ) to survive.

Crazy the Florida team couldn't find a stadium. There are tons of stadiums for minor league baseball teams down here. I can think of an old, but very cool one that isn't being used. Dodgertown in Vero Beach.

Good luck I really hope this league makes it. I was excited when I read about it. Thought for sure Florida would get at least one.

It is an experience to say the least. I did it w/o pay. Marvin Jones is one of my best friends and he dragged me into it because of my football IQ. lol
I was the only non, NFL coach, but they all respect me, so it is worth it. Can't wait till this season. We sent 11 players to the NFL, and it should've been more. Let's see what this year brings. If you want some pix of the team, inbox me. I'll send them to you.

The goal is to become an active " Minor League" entity for the NFL.
It's just difficult due to the fact that the NFL isn't supporting the league financially yet. Money came out of the owners pockets last season.
And that budget ran thin by week 3 between the airfare , lodging, per diem meals and staff/ player salaries etc.
If the NFL backed us, we could expand, for now lets hope for growth and corporate sponsors. We had Nivea, but that's not enough.

Yeah it's a big risk. Gate income isn't going to get it done. If they hit, get NFL support, it's the jackpot. I don't see why the NFL wouldn't throw several million their way. Makes sense. Like having an enlarged, cheap, practice squad.

Keep us informed what's going on. I'm really interested in this league. They didn't seem to get much exposure. Think ESPN 2 had a game or so on.

I am curious how do players sign up for this.......if they are on the waiver wire for the nfl they can play or do they have to have no connection to the nfl at the time but if so how can they retain eligibility for the nfl if they call?

My understanding of the league is, after the 1st and 2nd year players are released from NFL teams they sign with the FXFL, much in the way a lot of them sign with the arena league, or go to Canada.

The difference is in the FXFL they are actually playing with NFL rules, using what is very close to NFL playbooks, and being coached by NFL qualified coaches. They can stay in football shape, and be called up to an NFL contract at any time due to injuries or just poor play by bottom of the roster guys. Much in the way minor league baseball and hockey operate.

When players are on practice squads they often really don't get much coaching at their positions. They usually just play on the scout teams, mimicking opposing teams. Often playing out of position. WR's playing DB's ect.

In this league they are actually getting NFL type coaching, and developing skills at their position.

Sensational idea. They need NFL support to survive. If it goes the way the investors want it to, the NFL would expand the amount of players they could carry under contract, and send them to the FXFL to develop. I don't know why the NFL wouldn't give it to them.

Eventually it would act as an expanded practice squad, but they wouldn't have to pay most of the players at an NFL level.

Win Win for every one involved. I really hope this thing takes off this year, but it has to get exposure and a following among the fans

I think Coney Island where the Cyclones play. Sed sure about Coney Island but I need to double check if it's the Cyclones stadium.

MCU Field where the Cyclones play. I call it min Giant's Stadium. The wind comes through off of the water and the kicking game is a mess.
