Too bad his first NFL start comes with a decimated O-line, veteran LT and Center both out.
To make it worse, the Rams have a lethal pass rush, bludgeoned Cam Newton last week with five sacks and multiple hits.

It's about damn time! I don't care how he got it or why, I'm just glad he did and I hope it works out for the kid. I don't EVER want to see that piece of nothing on the field again in a Jets uniform. I'm back to watching Jets football and eger to see it. J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets
So I'm seeing on TV that there is a possibility of Fitzshitty playing today. What's the deal, is that as a back-up or starter?
I'm so hype about Jets football because we are moving towards the future and getting rid of the incompetent dirt. Or so I thought! So is Fitz playing or out?
Disregard! So I just saw on NFL network that Petty is playing. I don't care why or how he got there, I'm just glad he's there and hope he stays healthy and plays well enough to keep the job. And the OL is really where the season went to shit. It was pretty obvious coming into the season that the OL was lacking and for a while Ijalana and Qvale did a nice job covering up an obvious weakness, but there's no hiding it now.
Going back to the draft, this is why I think Mac really screwed up. There was any different number of ways he could have acquired a Tackle or Guard - trading up, trading down, etc. Instead he wasted the 1st and 2nd rounder on a developmental prospect and a linebacker that would be best fit as a Safety. Both of those picks were wasted and they have done nothing to help this team win right now..........
I think mac tried to trade up for tunsil, but the price was too steep.
This line has proven to completely be out matched this season. I thought we could get another year or so out of the old guys.
Last year the o was based on throwing fast to avoid sacks, because our o line was porous, which kept Fitz sack totals low. This year it's not working.

I think that is what Mac thought also. Not so and this team is suffering through an exceptionally bad season. We will be essentially starting from scratch and rebuilding after this season. This, after the GM has already been here two seasons. That is unacceptable in my opinion........

One play per quarter where Chan has a long ball for Petty to throw. If he hits on any one of them, it will be a confidence builder. He also has every bit of the arm needed and more. Fitz has a pea shooter........
I disagree on Mac. We really do need a whole team rebuild, and even then it doesn't matter without an above average qb.
He could have done it like the Browns.

What's really pathetic is it took an injury for Bowles to finally start Petty. Does anyone have any idea what this idiot is doing? He makes consistently bad decisions and the players don't even play for him. this has really gone bad in a big way. I hope Woody deems it necessary to shit can Bowles after the season. If Mac doesn't want to? FIRE him also. Something has got to change and this team is constantly rebuilding every few years.........
For better or worse we will get to see Petty behind Center. Our O-Line is horrible so I'm praying we don't ruin this kid! But with a heavy dose of the running game and Petty's ability to actually throw the deep ball, maybe we can keep the defense honest enough to give him a chance.

Young QBs are always a tough call. In a lost season, the GM almost always wants the kid to play, to see what he has long-term. The HC almost always wants the veteran to play, because a better chance at some wins means job security. This is no different.
If Fitz is the backup and Hack is inactive, then this had zero to do with Fitz's health, and was an organizational decision. After all, if Fitz isn't healthy enough to start, he's not healthy enough to play.

Maybe that's the reason Petty has been given the start. He's more mobilt than Fitz and he has a quicker release.

I wish Mangold was playing not because he is good player, but to help him with recognizing defenses.
The Rams DL is great and our OL sucks so the kid could get his ass kicked big time.... Therefore, I believe this will be ultra conservative GP from CG and Bowles... 1st down run, 2nd down run, 3rd down swing pass or WR screen, SP, etc. I don't think the kid will ahve the time to throw long becuse they can and will pressure him...
I would be shocked if I see anything different.
