That's not what I'm reading on camp notes from the media. I'm reading that Geno Smith is having a very good camp overall. Better than Petty.
Geno's behind the eight ball with some fans, though. If he was stinking it up, we'd be hearing about it everyday around here. But since he's playing well, everything seems to be taken with a grain of salt. "Well, it's only practice, so he still sucks".
He can't win.
You must be reading a lot of Chris nimbley..............
IMO, as I have continually said, at this point smith is still ahead of Petty, who had awful OTA's, mini camp, and a very bad first week of camp.
Over the last week Petty has improved, and smith has had a few BAD days, and a few meh days. Monday was exceptional.
The past week hasn't been all that way.

Jets Rest Four Vets, Petty Gets Hot in the Sun
Offense POD: Throughout his collegiate career at Baylor, Bryce Petty was known for his long ball accuracy. And while there have been flashes of that in Florham Park, Petty delivered one of his pretties tosses as a Jet today. After WR Jalin Marshall got a step on fellow rookie Juston Burris, Petty dropped in a perfect ball into the Ohio State product’s hands. Marshall finished the play and the scoring connection covered 80 yards. He plays faster than the 4.6 he was timed at during the Combine.
Defense POD: On the first play of team, Geno Smith threw a quick pass up the sideline to Jalin Marshall. But Darrelle Revis, who worked more in team today that at any point in camp, did not give up an inch and got his hands on the ball for a PD. The read was vintage Revis as he diagnosed quickly and attacked with the deflection.
A Dazzling Catch: Charone Peake has been quiet early, but he made plenty of noise with a one-handed reception this afternoon. With Juston Burris draped all over him, Peake was able to get his outstretched hand on a Petty ball and bring it into his body before securing both of his feet inbounds. That was the kind of catch that might give the young player confidence as he moves forward.

Vets Rest: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, WRs Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker and LB David Harris all got a rest day. Geno Smith was back with the first team offense and WR coach Karl Dorrell continued to work players through the rotation. Despite one drop, Jalin Marshall had himself a very productive session and continues to state his case.
Late Petty Fireworks: In two late-game situations, Petty got the offense on the scoreboard. After he threw a rope to WR Titus Davis for a score, he let Romar Morris do most of the work on today’s final play as the North Carolina product raced 60 yards to pay dirt.
Defensive Superlatives: DE Julien Obioha, a rookie from Texas A&M, recorded his second takeaway of camp. Not only did Obioha knock down a Christian Hackenberg pass, but he had the presence of mind to stay with the ball and collect the interception. Never quitting after a Kenbrell Thompkins reception, CB Dee Milliner tracked the wideout down from behind, knocked it loose and got on the change.
Forté Likely Out vs. Jags: As our Randy Lange (

PUP List: RT Breno Giacomini (back), RB Khiry Robinson (leg), WR Devin Smith (knee) & DL Muhammad Wilkerson (leg).

JN: Petty’s Performance Highlights Jets Thursday Camp Session
Following several days of practice in full pads, the Jets were back in shells for Thursday’s session which was essentially treated as an off-day for some of the team’s elder statesmen. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and David Harris, to name a few, did little more than stretch with the team.
The most encouraging part of the session was the overall performance of second-year quarterback Bryce Petty who came on strong after a slow start. After misfiring on his first several attempts, sometimes by a sizable margin, Petty settled down and made some of his best throws of the team’s early camp.
One of Petty’s first better throws came on this pass down the right sideline to rookie receiver Charone Peake who also made what was his best play of camp this far, hauling in the pass with an impressive one-handed grab. Later in the day, Petty led the offense during red zone drills and fired a 19-yard laser for a touchdown to wide receiver Titus Davis.
One good performance may end up meaning very little in the grand scheme of things, but just one day after failing to complete a single pass on seven attempts, Jets fans are surely hoping today was a turning point of sorts for the former Baylor product.
First-round draft choice Darron Lee also opened some eyes with some rather physical play given the fact that players weren’t in full pads. At one point, there was a near-confrontation between the offense and the defense when Lee didn’t hold back against Dominique Williams and Romar Morris. Lee may have a friendly demeanor off the field, but his on-field mentality is the complete opposite. Lee almost always looks angry once the helmet goes on, and today he played like it.
Petty wasn’t the only quarterback who flashed some big plays. Back-up quarterback Geno Smith audible from a pass play to a quarterback draw, a decision that paid off as he shot up the middle untouched on what would have likely been a long TD run.
On the undrafted rookie front, Jalin Marshall had a few more drops than we’ve seen from him up to now, but he followed up one drop by hauling in Geno Smith’s best pass of the day, a bomb down the right sideline over Juston Burris in coverage for what would have been an 80-yard score.
Burris wasn’t quite as solid today as he had been through previous sessions as he allowed several catches, but we still spotted him breaking up his share of passes, continuing to show excellent timing and aggressiveness.
After what was a rough day trying to hang on to the football through the air as he had multiple drops, running back Romar Morris finished strong when he pulled in a short pass from Petty over the middle and took it 60 yards to finish the session on a positive note.
The team will be out on the field once again tomorrow at 1:50.
Yes the tweets are cherry picked. But for sure the past week was not a good one for smith, and has been a very good one for Petty.
Is smith still ahead of Petty? Definitely, particularly after yesterdays good performance by smith, which he really needed at this point.
Do most fans strongly dislike smith. Yep. Two reason. 1) With the exception of a few good games he has been horrible on the field when it counts. 2) Maybe even more of a reason that 70%+- of fans want him gone from NY in multiple polls is that he has been an absolute creep off the field, going back to his days at WV, where he attacked a 71 YO man from behind his team mates were glad he was gone.
More then likely he'll be the back up here this year, but he'll 99% be gone next season
