Can someone please explain how Hack will build confidence?

What Mac and Toilet did during the offseason was doom Hack for failure. IMO, to build a young QB's confidence, you must give the youngster something he can rely on. Something, anything that will set him up for short yardage needed to get a 1st down? An experienced, above average OL, a premier running game, a stifling defense? The Jets do not have any one of those things. All they have is question marks everywhere except for DL?

Mac has instead stripped this team to bare bones. He, and the owner for that matter, have already said the fans should not look at wins? Can someone please explain to me how the hell that's going to instill confidence in Hack?

What is happening right now is NOT, nor will it ever be the way to develop a young QB.

This situation is not unique to teams that are rebuilding. The most famous cases are Aikman and Peyton Manning. Both players were on teams that were essentially expansion franchises. I would not say the Jets are anywhere near in that state. But my point is that young QBs often have to go through this when teams are building. Here is what I will say about Hackenberg that makes him an interesting QB for the job this season - he went through this at Penn State and did an admirable job. His tape wasn't great his past two years because he was in an offense not suited to his skills. But he was on a team that was in a complete state of disarray when O'Brien took over and he became the starting the QB. It took years to rebuild the program, and he had a lot to do with the success they are having now. So he has been through this before and knows what to expect.

The other thing I will say is that he has a chance to develop chemistry with the receivers without the demands of a Brandon Marshall type talent demanding the ball on every play. He can learn and run the offense the way it is supposed to be run, and the group can develop together. That's a positive. So he can gain some confidence over time as he grows in the offense and builds chemistry with this backs and receivers. It's not all bad...

I tend to see the glass as half full, not half empty here. When Rex's team took a nosedive after getting to the championship game the year before, I knew that the run was over for this team for a while. Two years ago was a pleasant surprise, but not sustainable. I think Mac and Bowles (I don't think the name is "Toilet" is warranted, there are far worse HCs, but whatever...) are going about this in the only way possible to build a franchise that can compete for a long time. This is how great teams are built. It is going to take some time. But they are finally doing it the right way.
