have to believe it is the issue that he is an excellent run defender and our linebackers right now are not capable to be that consistent especially inside. Lee is more of a coverage option right now and has long way to go. we have no depth in that position, so until they either draft or sign somebody will they make that decision to part ways with him. Wouldn't be against him sticking around one more season to help the growth and development in this area.
IMO, this is why there is a vocal minority on taking lee at 20..

yes, the the kid is fast enough to "be in the neighborhood" in pass defense.. hell, he better be.. lee's probably about 215 on game day.. problem is, he showed no ball skills at all..

the production gotten out of lee could have come from a kid in the middle of the draft, if a regime wanted to invest that many snaps to a kid like that..

if this regime does try to build around lee, it's because they are trying to justify the pick, not so much his potential..my two cents anyway.. & if i end up being dead wrong, nobody here will have to remind me to eat crow.. i'll own it..

What happens if we draft a guy like Ruben Foster? Do we then cut Harris, or does his salary become guaranteed after a certain point? Or do we keep Harris around as a mentor, albeit an expensive one?

After all we cut so far, even if we draft Foster which looks like as of now not an option that Harris has more left in the tank and is instrumental for Bowles and this defense moving forward in the short term... Now we don't know who they will sign in free agency, if a player like Minter signs then Harris' future is in doubt because they are of similar styles. To keep Harris for one more season, to be used as that run stuffing backer (two down) then it should be considered or consider him that bridge backer...

Who knows how Lee's progress will be from his rookie year to second year or "IF" the team plans to keep Harris moving forward but they did transfer David Harris' responsibilities last season to Lee... Too many what ifs at this point...

The right move is to build around our defensive line not Lee... Lee is just another part of the bridge between the defensive line and secondary...

The smart move would to sign a guy like Minter to two to three years keep Harris for one more year and draft a day three prospect like Kendall Beckwith from LSU... He is ranked as a high fourth round selection... Of course this depends if we trade down and acquire additional picks he would be an optimal selection... He is familiar and successful in both 3-4 and 4-3 defenses...

But again too early to really see what this regime is trying to do...

I get that but for the love of GOD stop putting him on the field in passing situations then

well if our secondary was better than David Harris wouldn't be such a headache in coverage... but at the same time drafting Lee was to help with coverage not only side line to side line but center field against crossing routes (receivers) and tight ends... but guess we will have to wait n see how this shakes out...
