Chad Pennington and these sports pundits!

So I caught the tail end of a conversation on ESPN radio. I believe it was Chad Pennington talking with Bart Scott and his cohost and I couldn’t believe what Chad said. Chad actually said that the Jets need to admit that they made a mistake by letting Sam Darnold go. WTF!!! I was SO disappointed in hearing this crap from him. He actually said that trading Sam to the Panthers was the best move for him but the Jets should not have traded him. Pretty much he was saying that the Jets will regret letting Sam go. Are you serious Chad? He can’t be serious can he? Did he actually watch the game and see what I saw and what most of us observed?

Yes we lost the game but Zach hung in there while getting beat down the entire game and managed to bring us within a five point lose. We actually had a slim chance of winning that game! Maybe I’m wrong in my thinking here but I can’t think of not one game which Sam showed me in three years what Zach showed in one game. Yes I’m well aware of the fact that Sam was under attack for pretty much the entire three years, like Zach was yesterday and it’s not like we went 0-16 with Sam all three years. So yes I am well aware of that but that’s not what I’m talking about. What I’m talking about is Sam did win us a few games but not in the situation like this. Not like what Zach dealt with yesterday.

Any game that Sam was under extreme duress like Zach was yesterday we have absolutely no chance. We actually had a chance yesterday and that is something to be happy about and truly build off of. Sam is a improviser, just like Zach is but he’s inaccurate as hell and he’s a turnover machine. He always had that happy feet issue with us, really didn’t remain calm under duress and always made those killer mistakes. That did not happen with Zach yesterday and that’s something to build off of. Look at it like this, put Sam Darnold on the Jets yesterday and he would’ve turn the ball over 2-3 more times and we would’ve got beat by 30!

they did make a mistake...
and after they let him go what veteran did they sign to help?

you can hire a former QB in a coach but a player to player is more needed nowadays to translate what he is suppose to recognize and understand in this day and age... Matt Cavanaugh is a good guy but he is from NFL past, NFL present...

they considered keeping Sam and still drafting Zach and it would of been the smart move... they could of still picked up Sam's 5th year and traded him after this season and still got a good deal...

look at Washington, Ryan Fitzpatrick is done... would of be an ample compensation if the Football Team wanted to trade for him we would of gotten more...

Sam was not the problem... Sam was the victim and he would of thrived in this offense and Zach would of gotten better learning curve...

Remember The D mans first pass in his first game on National TV talk about tough time & comeback & a win in front of the entire nation. Yesterday with a better coaching staff he ended up losing......Yes I liked his comeback but on that first TD the guy was wide open & he almost put that ball short. Funny how all the Sam lovers (I was not one) now hate him. Wilson may be a great qb but playing a few plays in pre-season & losing his first game does not excite me. IMO I never felt that the dirty cats or Sudden Sam were going to lose that game. they controlled it the entire game. Too be fair I feel the same way about the Cardinals QB I need to see this play every week & in the 4th quarter before I say he is great.

Now this does not mean that Sack or Zack or Zach will not be great but I heard the same things about many qb's before...let this play out first. As far as Sam & this weeks qb that we will face next.....(He got the best rating this week of the 5QB's this year). If he loses this one the press will eat it up. I am hoping like the big M in AZ that I have the best two QB's in the NFL but as they say in The show me state..... Show me first.

Are we we really starting to make the same excuse for our QB that we did for our last five.

Will Darnold be great now?.....who knows.....I don't think so but I must say I would think "Old Noodle Arm" would know more then me.

Lets just enjoy the season & see if we need to draft another Qb or LT?????they may both end up being great or they may end up on other teams.

I will go on record say that I think Becton is a big question mark as I have not seen him really play well yet. I have a gut feeling that Wilson will be good....but will he be good enough......Great - good - avg -poor or injured.....father time will tell us.

Again, lets not get too excited one way or another...lets watch...& give it time.

It's the media and the NFL who are stirring this stuff up, not Sam. I would have been equally happy if we'd kept Darnold and traded down to get him a better supporting cast. But the coaching staff wanted a new start and a reset of the QB clock. Darnold was OK but he had a reasonable line in front of him with not much of a pass rush. He could hand it off to McCaffrey for an automatic six yards or flip it to him for an automatic ten. The big mistake was letting our home run threat, Robbie, go, but Douglas has already admitted as much.

I agree but if we lose to the pats with onme of the qb from this years draft watch out ...the press will eat her up. IMO this is an early test for our young qb. to lose to the D man & one of your class in his first two games ?????? Big game

I can’t argue with anything your saying but I do have one thing to point out. If Sam was playing yesterday and getting brutalized with the players and coaches we have now, that game would have most likely been out of reach by halftime and that’s because of his inaccuracy issues, decision making and turnovers.

Sam can make it happen with time to throw the ball and some weapons around him but any half way decent QB can do that. That’s what they are supposed to do. It’s the special one that can still make something happen when pretty much everything is falling apart around them.

Zach held his own and did his part to give this team a chance to win yesterday. Put Sam in this same scenario and I believe the outcome is seriously different.

If Sam was playing everyone except AVT he knows, and understands what they can or can not do and would make the proper RB or TE protection calls as he started to do mid last year...

Unless I misunderstanding your post, I think your missing the point of my original thread post here. You can’t really use that first game of Sam’s rookie season on prime time TV as a good example in my opinion. Yes his first throw was a INT for 7 but the team came back and won as a whole. What I mean is Sam had help in the running game, his oline protected him well and the defense played pretty well that game also.

For the rest of that game Sam did play well I will admit but it wasn’t like he was under duress and had no help in the running game in that particular game. So give me another example if you can that is similar to yesterday. I honestly can’t remember a game that Sam was in a situation that Zach was in yesterday but we still won or had a chance of winning. I’m sure I’m wrong here but I can’t remember it!

Now I will admit that I was one of those that wanted Sam and was extremely happy when they drafted him. On the other hand, I didn’t want the Jets to draft Zach and I wasn’t happy when they drafted him. However Zach is proving his worth so far and changing my thoughts on him just as Sam didn’t prove his worth and change my thoughts of him. Especially in year three.

Zach will look at the film and see he made a couple of bad adjustments with RB Ty Johnson where he should of lined up... Put Ty two times on his left and never looked over into the flat when all hell broke loose... If he had Ty in his vision he would of dumped it off him but he couldn't see him...

Morgan ran away instead of signing with the Jets he chose Sam Darnold...
Completely forgotten by me in all of this, is the potential impact that Morgan had on Panthers' success with our OL via stunts etc. I need help on this, but is it possible that he knew enough about line calls and protection/run blocking schemes that the defense knew what was coming? Sack, GMF, anyone want to chime in here?

it is possible not like it was his first year with us... yes it was his first off season but he was a part of the roster last year and the only thing that changed on the OL was AVT...

Personnel wise, but the scheme also changed, to zone blocking.

he was splitting time the majority of off season until Zach Wilson finally signed his deal... He knew enough, but don't think he was the only culprit lmao the other person named Sam Darnold also had to have input he played with this OL minus AVT last year... And they did say both Joe Brady had to few all of Sam's tape last off season before they hired Robert Saleh, guarantee they saw the inefficiencies of this OL...
