Looks like jets arent going to get the deal done with versatile safety Gilchrist. Too bad. Conte is 6'2, 203, 26 year old safety...has 9 career INTs the last 4 years but doesnt bring the cover skills, tackling ability, scheme flexibility, or speed Parker of Gilchrist have...Conte - 4.53 40 and 35 inch vertical...so no 4.4 speed (or 4.38 for Parker) and no 38-40 inch vertical..doesn't tackle well and struggles with closing speed...huge step down from what we've been looking at. :smiley-angry046:

03/05/15 - S Chris Conte, unrestricted FA update, needed to deliver a big 2014 and only succeeded in getting trampled a lot. An inability to play physical without avoiding injury, and the lack of good closing speed make it unlikely the Bears have interest in bringing him back.

I really hope he gets a deal with the Bucs....How come we haven't heard Rahim Moore's name associated with the Jets? Does he not fit the scheme?

Buccaneers signed S Chris Conte.
Conte was always expected to sign with Tampa, even after a report surfaced he had a meeting set up with the Jets. The 26-year-old gives Tampa Bay some much needed continuity at safety after four players started at least five games at that position last season. He's likely to start at free safety following Dashon Goldson's departure earlier this week. Conte played his first two seasons under coach Lovie Smith, who he'll reunite with in Tampa.
