Reviewing the New York Jets' 2015 season, position-by-position:

Position: Running back

Overall grade: B

Individual grades: Chris Ivory B+, Bilal Powell B+, Stevan Ridley D, Zac Stacy D, Tommy Bohanon C.

Chris Ivory had a strange season for the Jets, finishing with a career-high 1,070 rushing yards but ending the season in a part-time role. Elsa/Getty Images
Summary: Ivory had a strange season. There's no other way to put it. For the first six weeks, he was one of the premier runners in the league. After that, he flashed elite form on occasion, but he wasn't able to sustain it. By Week 17, he was relegated to a part-time role and had only six carries, one of the coaching moves that will be talked about through the offseason. In the end, he rushed for a career-high 1,070 yards, fifth in the NFL. What triggered his slowdown? Injuries? Fatigue? Yes, those probably were factors, but let's not overlook the blocking. In Weeks 1 to 6, Ivory averaged 2.73 yards before initial contact, according to ESPN Stats & Information. After Week 6, it was only 1.82. Maybe he lost some burst, but most of the decline can be attributed to inconsistent blocking.

Powell's value was on display in the season finale, even if he wasn't. Without him, the offense was out of rhythm, especially on third down. He set career highs in catches (47) and receiving yards (388). He probably would've finished with 60 or 70 receptions if he hadn't missed five games due to injuries. He was the most underrated player on the team. ... Ridley, never able to shake the rust from his knee surgery, was a disappointment. He was a half-step slow and tentative at times, not trusting his blocking. ... Bohanon had only six touches in his fullback spot. As a blocker, he was average.

Noteworthy number: 535 -- the number of rushing yards with four wide receivers on the field. It was a league high, 413 yards more than the next team.

Playing-time percentages (based on 1,114 snaps): Ivory 49, Powell 33, Bohanon 24, Stacy 13, Ridley 8.

PT analysis: Todd Bowles doesn’t think he overworked Ivory. The statistics support the coach's claim, as Ivory was 16th among running backs in total snaps. You have to be careful with him because of his violent running style; he needs to be managed. Powell would've been close to 40 percent if he had stayed healthy. The bulk of Stacy’s work came when Powell was banged up. He got hurt when Powell returned. Ridley never found a niche, which made the decision to start him in the finale all the more surprising.

i believe we saw ivory get old around mid season on.. he's a human battering ram closing in on 30 looking for one last payday & i say we wish him good luck on that..

he's been a good jet but i was already hoping we draft a RB at 20 & resign powell..

This is a product of Todd Bowles not knowing how to coach a football team. Is there anyone else that's going to scream from the rooftops, WHY didn't the Jets use Chris Ivory more in the Buffalo game? No. Todd Bowles master plan was much more genius than that. He decides to go with a guy that hardly got used at all this season and was not very productive. Meanwhile, the guy that was our offense for about a year and a half gets a measly 6 carries. I think Todd Bowles needs to be sent back to the Cardinals.

I do disagree with you final sentence, but i will say I was very surprised Ivory only got 6 touches. Particularly after the 58 yard run.

I'm going to assume that Ivory is all beat to hell, and has been ineffective the last few months. They have been relying on Fitz to carry them, and he has. Seems like Bowles decided to go with the fresh legs. In hind sight it was clearly a mistake.

yeah, i didn't get why ivory didn't play much in the last game, but i'd assume their was a reason - injuries, worn out, etc... plus, while bowles is the head coach and ultimately responsible for all, i'd think gailey was the one who was distributing the playing time and carries.

Ivory was injured in the week 16 game and didnt return to practice for week 17 until midweek. He was limited in practice in pretty much every session. My guess is if Powell were healthy, Ivory might have been inactive

Or maybe that stupid Bowles guy just decided to limit Ivory on a whim.

Take your pick

Questions:

1. Why are you even on this site, are you really a Jets fan or some closet Patriot, Bills or Giants fan?
2. If you are a Jets fan then why is EVERYTHING that you post about them negative when they clearly had a decent to pretty good year this year?
3. How can you say Bowles should be sent back to the Cardinals after the 6 game jump from last years disaster to missing the playoffs by one game and a 10-6 record?
4. HOW in the hell can you say because you mentioned this before that Rex is a better HC then Bowles when Bowles is clearly the better HC. Forget the fact he beat us twice or if you want to include that, then look at what the Bills did this year and what Rex did his last four years with us?
5. If the Jets make the playoffs next year, will you still have something negative to say then also?

Comments:

Yes the Jets lost the last game and both times to the Bills at that but it appears Ivory wasn't used more then 6 times in the last game because of his hampering injuries and pure fatigue. If you know something we don't or I missed then let us or me know because it seemed clear to me Ivory couldn't give a full game and not much more then what he did. If your going to be so damn negative, at least be truthful and honest with it. You say your so honest with your post but that's not the case. This last game was a perfect example. If they could have used Ivory more, don't you think they would have? Especially with Powell not being able to play. That's common sense, so unless I missed something and Ivory was clearly healthy and they choice not to play him anyway, then why would you say something so idiotic? When Ivory was on the sidelines from time to time, you could clearly see the coaches or team doctors talking to him or working on him.

But hindsight is not needed to identify just how foolish a move that is. Listen, you are going into a game that you MUST have to close out the regular season the right way. Don't you want your best talent on the field for you???? This is so easy to see. This is so cut and dried.

You ALWAYS want to go down fighting with your BEST talent. Chris Ivory is very clearly the Jets best RB. He had a 58 yard run for crying out loud. And then Bowles decides to give him only 6 carries?! My tendency is to want to ask Todd Bowles is he's been smoking crack!

It's getting tiresome blaming Bowles for everything. Go back and look at the 58 yard run. Ivory was not himself. He was not at 100 percent and it looked like he was holding up not extending his legs on the runs. They put him in to give Ridley a breather. I highly doubt the team would limit Ivory as a strategy.

But he was still our best option at RB, Elias. Ivory at 70% is still better than Ridley at 100%. Ivory had a 58 yard run and in that game you MUST fight that battle , with so much on the line, against your arch nemesis, with your BEST TALENT. There's no other way.

Todd Bowles looked at this game and thought the Bills were a pushover. He decided to go with less than his best hand, made almost ZERO in game adjustments and cost the team the playoffs.

He would have taken that 58 yarder to the house if he wasn't injured..........he def was not as fast as he was in the beg 6 games you really would have to be blind to not see that.

Well, then why was this even posted on this site? It sounds like you guys have it all figured out. No matter what. No matter what stupid sh*t Todd Bowles does from here until hells freezes over, even if the Jets are 0-16, he's ALWAYS right. He's ALWAYS the best. Insert whatever Chuck Norris gravitational force defying acts of superiority. OK, got it.

Probably less than that. Probably would have been inactive had Powell been available. Yet the guy strapped on helmet and gave it his all

I guess if our HC wasn't dumb like Bowles and instead a really smart coach like Rex he would have personally gone to the trainers room and shot Ivory up.with a massive dose of morphine and got him permanently injured. Because to some idiots, apparently, winning a game is more important than player safety

Substitute "Rex Ryan" for "Todd Bowles" and you are describing yourself.

THANK YOU, LOL! True Jets fans can see Ivory was hampered bad and Bowles and Gailey made the right decision but haten ass Bills, Pats and Giants fans see it otherwise.

Come on man, your just being irrational and a haten ass Jets fan. Like I posted and questioned earlier but you never answered, are you really a Jets fan or a closet Giants, Pats or Bills fan? Any rational person could see (whether your a Jets fan or not) Ivory wasn't himself out there. If Powell would have been active that game, Ivory probably wouldn't have even played. If your a true Jets fan, show some love and give props on a very good season. Throughout all the mistakes and mishap decisions, Bowles made some very good things happen with this team and built a foundation of future success. If your not a Jets fan, get off our site and stop bringing the negative bullshit here.
