Christian Hackenberg vs Syracuse

This is his first career start in College. He looks so natural playing here at Metlife.
One thing positive if the Houston Texans continue to struggle is the possibility of Jim O'Brien being let go and Hopefully Woody can see that Hackenberg had his greatest success under a true pro style (brady) offense.

I'd Drop Bowles for O'Brien in a heart beat. Even though Houston isn't that great, his players play their hearts out for him.

First - it's Bill O'Brien..

Second... I would hire him as the OC/Assistant HC. I would want him to focus 100% on Hackenberg and the offense.. Nothing else... let him groom Hack the way he can and let Bowles get focused on either coaching up Kacy Rogers(cause he is awful and needs it)

oddly enough both are right...

his name is Bill James O'Brien...

doubtful he will be available at least not this year maybe the following...

Lol fair enough....

Well then maybe after next year if Bowles doesn't improve his coaching and the team then 2018 has my vote for Bill "Jim" O'Brien

If only he was this good with us. Not saying he won't be but he definitely ain't this year or he'd be playing already. I know it's rear to have first year QBs playing year one and playing well but it does happen. We have next year which is only year two for him. We'll see what he and Petty has to offer.

As a huge PSU fan who watched every game of his career, he was different under O'Brien...franklin destroyed him the last two years. It was obvious Hack didn't fit franklins system as you can see Franklin is winning at PSU with Trace McSorley who is a mobile/scrambling qb more than he is a bomber.

Hack has the potential, he was running the Pats offense as an 18 year old true freshman. What ever Franklin did may take time to fix

I remember watching the pre-draft Gruden segment with Hack, and Gruden was visibly upset at how bad Hack's mechanics were. Particularly, how his feet were backwards when receiving the snap from shotgun formation. When pressed on why he would do that, he volunteered that was how the CS (Franklin I presume) coached him to do it. Sounds basic and easily fixable to a non-QB like myself, but I gotta believe that it isn't quite that simple. He did it correctly under O'brien and then Franklin changed it. Don't get me wrong, Franklin is a very good coach, but his offensive scheme was a horrible fit for Hack. The Jets are very smart to 'redshirt' Hack this year.

Loved that segment. If I remember correctly, Gruden was smitten with him and his potential. He has the ability and the smarts to do it. Not starting petty makes me think this organization really wants Hack to take it next year. They stated that they would really work with him on his mechanics this offseason.

I was very pleased when we drafted him. I wanted them to draft him so when they did I was very happy. I have to think a kid who runs a pro system at 18 and does it well can do it! Maybe I'm a homer or it's wishful thinking, but I've always loved the kid.

for what it's worth, gruden also seemed to be "smitten" with petty when he was on his show the year before as well..

let's hope he was right with at least one of them.....

i hear that PSU is doing great this year. How much of that is because Hack is gone?

They are doing better without him because their qb, McSorley, fits the offense that Franklin their head coach wanted to run two years ago. Franklin implemented an offense that didn't fit hack but fits mcsorley.

Also, after his stand out freshman year he lost Allen Robinson and his oline went south. I know these are all excuses but I do believe he can man the ship after some work.
