I never realized what a heralded player he was both in high school and Penn State, I too was guilty of not paying him much mind. They had 4 QBs on roster, no plans, no direction, no more of them remaining. Jets couldn't develop a Joe Montana.

Hackenberg was highly sought after in high school, ranking as the No. 1 overall quarterback recruit for the class of 2013, according to ESPN.

After throwing for 8,457 yards and 48 touchdowns in three seasons at Penn State, he went to the Jets in the second round.

In my own defense, (who cares?), I posited facts , statistics,and conclusions which can be gleaned since I had zero degree of hooray in me for Hackenberg. I was just surprised at his sweet statistics .

I didn't go that deep. However, I throw you a nice pass in basketball, you make the basket, I get the assist, you get the points. I'm no football analyst, just a shlub outta Brooklyn who suffered with the Jets for what, 7-8 presidents, who just read that Hackenberg was considered a or "The" top prospect his senior year at quarterback.

He had a change of coach and then the team was poor in his last season.
Surely this would have affected his stats, before that he was running a pro based system effectively and touted as a top prospect.

Now I'm far from defending his time at the Jets but he is just another QB with potential that died in NY.

He was very inaccurate his first year, he was fortunate to have receivers who were able to adjust to his poor throws.

What puzzles me is , it's not one administration, every administration (ownership) who ran the Jets has never grabbed the brass ring when it comes to quarterbacks. Back to the curse?

Always easy to blame someone else for your problems. I'm sure he is right with "The Jets had no plan for him", but I guess he had no plan for himself either! What did he do in the offseason? What did he do on his own to try to improve? Who did he seek out for help? What Guru or camps did he attend?

I mean come on now! Plenty of blame to go around, but NO ONE saw an ounce worth saving with him.
