LIJETSFAN, first off I think you’ve probably figured out by now that I totally respect your POV. We almost always agree about the Jets.

And I’m not in any way suggesting that my POV about the racial schism in the NFL (and America, for that matter) is the only valid viewpoint. I completely understand and respect the differences in opinion on this issue.

My main point is that it is generally accepted in certain circles that alienating any significant segment of society in what is supposed to be an apolitical institution like the NFL is not a wise decision. There are many veterans, police officers, and other Americans who share my views that don’t appreciate this political narrative being shoved down our throats by the likes of CBS sports, FOX sports, ESPN, and NFL Network. It’s a one-sided perspective all the way. They don’t DARE challenge the racial politics being pushed by Colin Kaepernick and like-minded people. And if they do, they’re banished from the airwaves for having the audacity to dissent from such commonly accepted beliefs in those circles. If you disagree with the Black Lives Matter stance, you’re automatically assumed to be a fascist right wing Nazi.

And that’s complete horseshit.

Blindside D'Brick - thank you and likewise. I totally respect your POV as well. I would just say that any time you inject politics into sports, there will be opposing points of view. It has been happening in sports for decades. Sports are a reflection of society. I am not taking a position one way or the other on this issue because frankly its not my team. In my opinion, the owners run their businesses in the way they see fit. And I respect that decision.

You may recall that there was a time when prayers on the field before and after a game was considered controversial - the argument was that religion had no place in sports and the fans don't want religion pushed down their throats. Now it is generally accepted as a part of the game.

Sometimes the hardest conversations in our society are the most necessary. I think having this kind of debate is healthy. And I am hopeful that the owners and the players will find a workable compromise - and even more optimistically, that we as a country will find a solution to these challenges so that the protests are no longer necessary.

Any Double or Triple IPA is my choice. Clown Shoes out of Massachusetts, Knee Deep out of Auburn California. This stuff is the Holy Grail of beer in my world. I’m drinking one right now!

Ah, the knee deep bomber! While I claim the bourbon county stout as my favorite beer, I am not really a stout guy. I always look for another one to compare to bourbon county since you can only get a few of these a year if you are lucky. I have found a couple other stouts that are pretty good but just not as good. Boulevard had a pretty good one this year and New Holland dragons milk is pretty good.

That said, the rest of the year I'm an ipa guy. I also like the doubles and triples. I believe knee deep even had a quadruple ipa that you can occasionally find that was really good. If I'm in the mood for a $10 bomber, I'll usually grab something from Knee Deep or Stone. Other none bombers I like, Six Point ,resin, or high res, Uinta, Detour, some from Lagunitas, clown shoes you mentioned. There are so many...

A couple from Ct. that are pretty good, Big Cranky from Stoney Creek. Hanging Hills has a good one ,can't think of the name, Ct. Valley Brewing, The New Frontier...

Oh yeah, Evil Twin Brewing, Molotov Cocktail, they make a light, regular, and heavy. Heavy weighs in at 17%. Heavy is probably a once a year brew

Anyway, There are so many good ones to try...

As for politics, I am not a fan of any of it. I can't say I like the way the world is headed. I don't blame Trump, like the media does. I actually like that he says what he thinks, although maybe not all of it. Still he's better than a politician...

I can't say I'm a religious fanatic, but I am a Catholic and I do go to church as regularly as possible. Not a fan of what's happening to religion either. I'm afraid religion may some day be gone.

Remember when we were young and Sunday was a day of rest. You went to church, or not and then stayed home with your family, watched football... Because there was no where else to go. Stores were closed on Sunday. Not anymore. Now we have time for nothing. We run 24/7, 7 days a week, maybe we have time to stop and eat quick in the middle, maybe not.

We run as fast as we can to take our kids to all the things they are involved in because they are "supposed" to be involved in a thousand things. The rest of the time we run around as fast as we can to make as much money as we can because it's already spent when we get it.

Guys, I don't think this is how it all was meant to be

Look at our great country. People came here to avoid taxes and being told what to do. What did they do when they got here? Well, first, they told the people who lived here already( indians, or native Americans as we are now told to call them) that this land wasn't there's anymore and that their way of life was wrong. They brought them disease. They brought them booze. They said, drink this booze and sign this paper and now you just signed over NY to us... Our great country is founded on what we stole from someone else. And I'm pretty sure we didn't avoid taxes or being told what to do either.

How about slavery? We sailed to a far off place, saw people who were different from us and we said, hey let's take these people back with us and make them into slaves.

I mean, who thinks that way? I don't get it.

Yeah, there have always been things like this throughout history. There have always been slaves. Heck , look at what the Romans did with gladiators. Some people believe it's getting worse. maybe it is, maybe it's not, I don't know, but it sure as heck isn't getting better.

there's my 2 cents. Doesn't matter. Won't change anything, but my brief 2cent version. Maybe not about the kneeling but about the direction this world is headed

I just hope the damn Jets find a way to win the damn Superbowl before the end comes

How about that beer thread?

So, on our old Jet site, we had a beer thread. Anyone want to take part in one here? I admit to being a beer snob. Anybody else? what's your favorite beer? Are there any that you would go out of the way to find? I go out of my way to get just one. Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. If you don't know of it, it is released on Black Friday and generally impossible to find in Ct. by the end of the day.

Me too! I'm more of an IPA guy. Bale Breaker Brewery in Washington State, Lawson's Brewery in Vermont.....Pike XXXXX Stout is awesome.

I have a home in Delaware, too, and when friends come visit, it's off to the Dogfish Head Brewery. Their 60 min. IPA is the beer that really got me started on my craft beer kick.

I like the 90 minute Dogfish Head. Gets you to the destination a little faster. I noticed they have a 120 minute one, too. I bet it’s good, but a little steep in price for this hombre.

They were selling the 120's for $230 a case at the brewery. I took a pass on that.

As for slavery we didn't start it , not making a excuses but it's become a political tool
Back in the 1400's the Portuguese and the Europeans started up with the African trade , but slavery dates way back before that.
The Europeans came here so Jamestown was the start .
Anyway that's who,thinks of that

I have to admit, I'm sick of hops. I am so sick of every microbrew and craft brewery doing IPAs, double IPAs, special IPAs. At what point do we just fill a pint glass with hops and water?

I'm friends with the brewmaster of Wachusett Brewery up in Massachusetts, and they do some good stuff. But every brewery competes to see who can be the hoppiest. Just give me a medium amber ale, something like Bass. Sam's a good lager, and their Oktoberfest is great. Perhaps my favorite lately has been the Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest.

Here in Connecticut, there are some good breweries, like Two Roads. But so many are stuck in that hoppy contest.

Slavery as an institution goes far, far earlier than that. The confluence of events that led to the triangle trade was Portugal sailing around the southern coast of Africa. Henry the Navigator stuff. You hit the nail on the head with that.

About 50 years before Columbus, the Portuguese were even enslaving Africans on a small level and importing those slaves to Europe. But it was after European conquest of the Americas and the need for agricultural labor in the sugar, tobacco, coffee, etc., fields that it became the massive industry it would become by the end of the 17th century and into the 18th.

Cheaterhater, you activated Sack’s wheelhouse. History.

How many other NFL sports forums get this kind of history lesson. I’m guessing none.

See, this beer thread is good. we can learn about new beers. I haven't noticed Bale Breaker Brewery or the Pike stout here in Ct. but I will take a look. I have, of course, had good old Sip of Sunshine from Lawsons. It used to be hidden in the back and you had to be lucky to get it here but now it has become pretty easy to get and has a spot in the front of the cooler.

When I'm excited that I'm making money or at work, or even if I'm sad cause I'm not making any money:) I will grab myself a 120. once or twice a year. Dogfish, has another seasonal, haven't seen it this year so I can't remember the name, it is about the same abv as the 120 and about the same price. Doesn't help if I can't think of the name but it's pretty good too. Some of the other Dogfish beers are weird
