Christopher Johnson: Let the players kneel.

Honestly Hobson, based on what I've seen of Christopher Johnson, I hope he remains the active owner after Woody returns. He's smart, has a vision for the franchise, is not afraid to take bold risks (like moving up in the draft) and is building a rapport and culture that this fan base sorely needs. Woody has the largest stake in the organization, I get that. But, Christopher seems better equipped for the role on a day to day basis.

i agree. i don't know the ownership structure and had always assumed woody owned the entire team. hopefully woody will see the "progress" made under his brother and take a more hands-off approach when he inevitably returns. i'm not anti-woody as many jets fans are, but i definitely like the way the team has been run under christopher.

U.S. Flag Code passed in 1942 during WW2.

176: Respecting the Flag

D. “The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery”

I. “The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any way whatsoever.”

Anyone associated with "America's Team" who did that should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the terms specified by the US Flag Code.

Then this veteran would point out to your veteran that this protest was never about the flag. He (and I ) swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States. That Constitution, and other laws of the Land, provide for equal protection under that law. The people who kneel are calling attention to the fact that not all Americans are equally protected and are, in fact, discriminated against by people who also swore to uphold those laws. The protests have been misrepresented (to be about the flag and patriotism) by people who would divide us. If that is "perfect" to you, then you don't realize that he doesn't understand the real issue here.

This isn’t a freedom of speech issue. I don’t know why people keep assuming that. It’s politicized activity while on the job, and owners have the right to say “not on my time”. They sign the checks.

And all legal Americans are equally protected under the law. Just because there are isolated instances of police brutality doesn’t change that.

Executed? Talk about hyperbole. Every situation of a person being killed by a cop has its own set of circumstances. It’s not always police brutality. Sometimes these shootings are justified. But they get thrown together into one category by the likes of Kaepernick and others pushing an agenda.

I do call them isolated instances because, despite the media fervor over this supposed epidemic of cops “targeting, hunting down, seeking” black males and killing them (more hyperbole), the statistics suggest otherwise. The overwhelming majority of police aren’t racist and typically do the right thing, like respond to black communities and provide protection to their communities. And meanwhile, 93% of black males are killed by other black males, and hardly anything is said about that because, well, it doesn’t help support the narrative that’s being pushed by people like Kaepernick, Sharpton and other rabble rousers.

Sorry, don’t mean to veer off course into political talk here, but the response to these sanctions brought forth by the owners is so one sided against them in the mainstream media. A counter argument is practically forbidden in these media circles. If you don’t agree with Kap, you’re an insensitive bigot. It’s ridiculous.

Statistically more white males are shot by cops.

By making this statement, you are presuming to know the mindset of a complete stranger. You are also grouping strangers across the country into one mindset.

As a conservative, I hate when any officer over steps his authority, and infringes on anyone's rights. I think many rights are illegally infringed daily, but you can't fight town hall.

It pains me that minorities live with fear, and worry about who is going to profile them next.

But I also know wonderful, good moraled people who are police, and they also work in a state of fear. What car will they approach when a psychopath decides to murder them? Nut jobs murder random cops, because some cop in another state did something wrong.

There are problems in this country, but our flag represents the soul of this country which enables us to fix our problems, and protects us from a lot of evil in this world which is normal in other countries. It also represents all of the good in America, and every person who ever served and died in the name of preserving the freedom of strangers and future generations.

That said, my issue with distracting from the national anthem, is that it is absolutely disrespectful, and it opens up this thought that the flag can be disrespected by anyone who thinks their own cause is worthy. It sets a precedent, where the flag had always been off limits.

Well stated.

You raise a vital point that often goes unrecognized. When cops are murdered for any number of reasons, such as retribution for some unrelated injustice, or simply in the process of trying to make an arrest, it gets a brief mention on the nightly news and a small paragraph in the newspaper. No marches, no Molotov cocktails, no demands for massive investigations and high profile lawyers.

Just sad funerals with families who lost someone who dedicated their life to protecting others from harm. As opposed to the dirtbag who shot him and will probably continue to kill and commit other crimes before they perish.

It’s almost as if people shrug their shoulders and assume it’s just a part of the job of being a police officer. That’s pathetic. Something Kaepernick will probably never understand as he wears his piggie police socks.

If Live PD is any indication of how police are treated on a daily basis more people not just black people should be tased and/or shot. A little respect on both sides goes a long way.

I’ve never pretended to understand the plight of black people who deal with racism. I know it’s real, and it’s something we all should acknowledge and work at eliminating from our world, through inclusive dialogue and condemnation of such ideology.

But you shouldn’t presume that because I’m a right leaning white guy that I don’t understand this issue. I understand it quite well.

Remember historically in America, different"white" people were massively discriminated against. At one time, the Irish were killed, sent to fight in the civil war in place of"Americans",and the most hated group in the us, another time it was Italians. WW2 it was Chinese, post ww2 it was germans.

Remember, JFK becoming president was shocking because he was Irish and catholic.

And it shouldn't be that way, but it's a slow process to get out of this mess. Without a black leader like mlk, you get a lot of unhelpful behavior based out of anger and retribution that hurt their own cause. Mlk understood this and I don't see his equal in society today.

I know older liberals who are dear friends, but grew up in a different world. Not that today racism is dead, but they still think we love in 1960s Alabama. Thinking that way controls their behaviors and how they view cops, etc. The fact is the world is a different place.

I think it was just this year, a cop in NYC was ambushed in his squad car and shot in the face and killed, eating lunch. He was a child, I think 19 or 20, with a pregnant fiance. He didn't deserve that, his child didn't deserve that, and odds were he wasn't even racist, or white.

Actions like this prevent the two sides from coming together.

The common denominator, they were all minorities at the time.

i think i asked this question earlier (rhetorically) in this thread, but when you watch a game on tv and the national anthem comes on, do you stop what you are doing, stand at attention and remain silent to pay respect to our flag?

i, like most, stand at attention during the national anthem when at a game. but i highly doubt most of the people who are taking offense to the players taking a knee and claim it interferes with their enjoyment of the game they watch on tv, stand at attention during the national anthem when watching on tv.

The players started this controversy, not President Trump. He simply stated what many people felt by saying “stop disrespecting our flag A-HOLES”. And I just so happen to agree with him.

The handful of players who choose to make a spectacle of themselves by using a sporting event to make a political statement is not something many Americans want to see on Sunday afternoon. They want to watch a football game without a political agenda rammed down their throats.

And a misinformed agenda at that.
