I know there are a few guys here from Ct. and others who are NBA fans who should know of Cliff, as he had an 18 year NBA career.
I havent found any article that says what happened but I did see that he had a stroke in 2017 that left his left side paralyzed for a while that he recovered from, and then later had a tumor removed from his jaw, and then cancer surgery last year
Cliff lived down the hall from me at UConn. he put UConn on the map, won us the NIT and was our first big star. he was born in 1966 as was I. Cliff was a good dude. He always had a smile on his face. funny, whenever he saw me , he always called me by my first and last name. I remember him coming back to visit after he signed his NBA contract and driving his new Mercedes up onto the front lawn of the dorm. he left the car running and the AC on full blast cause you could see whatever he had hanging from the rear view mirror blowing in the breeze.
and no, I never smoked pot with Cliff but I did have a few beers with him. I remember a time, driving him and another UConn player, Marc Suhr to the bar. I had a good sized car, either a Regal or Monte Carlo SS, can't remember which, at the time, and Cliff hops, or climbs into the front seat, throws it all the way back and stuffs Surh in the back seat. Cliffs knee was hitting my steering wheel practically and Suhr had a knee on each side of the back seat, spread as wide as the whole seat. Suhr had some little car of his own and he had taken the front seat out and drove from the back. these guys were huge, no doubt, but you never realize how huge until you stuff them in a car
Today is a sad day for UConn basketball. RIP Cliff
