I think I am inclined to agree with you on this one. If I take into consideration the injuries that it was finally revealed that he was playing through, and it's only fair to do that, his play while not up to expectation was not as bad as it seems. AND you are right on with the mentoring idea. If he could pass on even half of his knowledge about the QB position to Travis we could be set up quite nicely at that position. I honestly don't believe I have ever seen a QB that could diagnose the opposing defenses as well as he does, and he still does it, just not as fast. Given enough time he can pick the defense apart and make them pay. That being said I believe that if he came back and tried to impart that knowledge and skill to Travis I would be all for it, especially because he will have the off season to recover from the injures he played with this season and could as Billicheat said be pretty much the great player he was before.
Gram i think it may end up being best to bring him back......BUT.......

Will the ol be better???? I think so. I believe that the "O" line needs mostly a younger right tackle. Moses is an excellent player but his age and ability to stay healthy has been a detriment. The others if healthy, Fashanu, Simpson, Tippman, and AVT are reliable starters but we need more QUALITY depth. A really good all purpose TE to pair with Conklin would be beneficial as well.
