Common Sense facts and a question on the Geno/Petty saga

Lets take a look at the facts that I think we can all agree on

1. Petty is improving
2. Geno isn't
3. Geno looks like he has alienated himself from everyone
4. Geno is in the last year of his contract..
5. Geno has exp starting....and his film starting is erratic at best
6. Petty seems to be smart and doing all the things you want from a young QB


So based on these facts who do you think a front office would keep?

They have to see it the way we see it... I don't understand/comprehend how anyone can see Petty not being on the roster..

I agree with all of the above, but if you are MM and you have Vikes on the phone and they are only interested in Petty - what do you do? Do you cut Geno and get nothing in return or trade Petty for a mid-rounder (assuming thats the offer)? The answer is easy if you are sold on Hack, because you gut out another year of the guy with Zero Friends. Otherwise it becomes very complicated if you think Petty has a chance to be the guy. Like I said, this could get very interesting and I will trust MM/TB/CG to know what they have in our current #s 3 & 4 because thats the key.

Vikes won't want Petty... They have their QB of the future... They want some one to fill in for 1 year and they want someone with starting experience.... Not saying they want Geno but he fits the bill

This is a very good way of laying things out. I also believe that the CS does not know what Petty can become. He's only in his 2nd season out of a single read offense and having to learn a pro style offense on the fly. To cut him now would be pure incompetence on the part of the front office.

So once again, the only option for Mac/Bowles is to cut the sh*t. Cut/trade Geno and allow this team to turn the page from this very unpleasant chapter....

here's the dilemma....how far apart are they even now? Sadly, Geno may still be more advanced - scary thought huh? I personally don't think Geno belongs in the NFL, but Petty at THIS stage may be the same. What you're hoping is that Petty eventually catches/surpasses GEno in terms of development and becomes a viable NFL QB - but that might not be until 2017+.

Here's my rub - Petty was drafted as a PROJECT. You can't say after one year it's over. I get drafting another one like Hackenberg - they needed to give themselves another shot. He is a project himself, but his experience may give him faster track than Petty. Next year should tell a lot between the two - 2 years for Petty should be a fair enough comparison to one year of Hackenberg - Petty better be ahead. So I think this still boils down to the Jets deciding on 3 or 4 QBs, not Petty or Geno. Petty stays if they keep 4

I see your point but 2 things I see alems a prob

Smiths presence alone stunts the growth of both Petty and Hackenberg. HE gets reps and QB coach time that should be going to the younger guys..

If Petty and Smtih are the same then run with Petty and cut smith. Cause as I pointed out to start this thread.. Petty's arrow is pointing up and Smith's has flatlined.
