I can simply not understand how coaches like The Real Housewives buy flash and dance do the same damn thing when drafting quarterbacks. Instead of seeking that comparable player that can command their offense either in the first round or sign a rookie free agent. Given the proper structure and development the majority of college signal callers can thrive in the NFL. Buying in on hype, which our organization has done time and time again basically wasting draft selections on guys that have no real experience in the college levels (more than one year of success or starting experience) is so frustrating.
Yes Sam Darnold one year wonder and we waste a pick on him. He had his moments but his career was marred by a dumb play call that was a pick six on his first NFL throw. That was on Sam more than the O.C., he should of known better. He had time to see the field.
Wilson like Darnold was more bravado and flash. Tie in an offensive coordinator technically first time play caller and organizer of a game plan which had some successful moments but not with this silver spoon entitled little bitch from Utah. As soon as they were linked I knew it was a bust. Was at his pro day and how did they not see him miss fire on short throws with no pads and with receivers he played with all year long, how is that not a red flag?
They said we have not given up on Sam then boom traded. Then they said we have not given up on Wilson then we trade for Aaron Rodgers after we fired the offensive coordinator basically said we do not need Sam, lets roll with Wilson. So we ended up trading Sam to Carolina and yes we fleeced them but, Wilson was not ready and we had no veteran quarterback to mentor the youngin who thought he can play his game and believed as soon as he walked through the door that the team(players) had to bow down to him that he is deserved respect being drafted No. 2 overall, It only took a couple seasons for the players to turn their back on him, they were all in on Mike White a former 5th round selection.
Talent comes in so many different ways but if you do not understand the playbook you stole from your former employer and try to make it your own by drafting someone that looked like he could be something, then have not one, not two but three different quarterbacks who were more pocket oriented thrive in you game plan then the hand picked player you went to bat for and sold to the higher ups who believed you had a clue.
Know your system, find that guy that can not only manage it but thrive in it while having the capability to grow with in it.
I said my peace, just hopefully Rodgers can do some dmg with us and we draft that guy heir apparent.
