Cornerback Options

Here is who I would trade Leonard Williams or Maye for:

- Chris Harris Broncos CB (Just signed a 1 year deal could be a perfect straight up trade and a top 4 CB)
- Byron Jones, CB (Hip Healing ready for week 1 and Dallas needs to make cap space for there big 3 signings)
- Marcus Peters or Aquib Talib both on final year of deal another straight up trade with williams that makes sense
-Traye Waynes - on his 5th year again perfect trade for leonard

All excellent options but I’ll take the youngest one. Whoever he is just give him to me and let’s go damnit! The Jets need a CB in the worst way and that is to damn obvious.

Any chance of throwing Jalen Ramsey in there as an option???

Jalen would be a good option - I just dont see them trading him to us at this point. Too many injuries with Philly CB's. Traye Waynes would probably be the best long term option if we looking at youth. The thing is since all these guys are in final year of deal and most are with rebuilding teams you either have a team that wants to get value for them before they depart and or a team that is in rebuilding which needs that value even more. Sort of like us with Leonard Williams. There is no way we sign him next year - not at his price. So basically he will walk and another top 10 first round pick is gone.

Don't see Harris getting traded this year. Plus he's older. Philly has some injuries at CB so Waynes may not be possible at the moment. Peters and Talib would be upgrades but are about tho hit the downside of their career. The Jones situation is one to keep an eye on.

Jalen would not be a good option, he would be a great one but the Jaguars would never trade him understandably. I can go with Waynes but I think Marcus Peters or Byron Jones would be better and their both a year younger. Peters seems to be the best of the three but is the biggest head case. Being that there’s no chance in HELL of getting Ramsey, if there was anyway to get B. Jones then get him, I’d say.

Note: I’m still holding out hope that our problems will solved with our two rookies K. Brown and A. Blessuan. Strong chance with Brown being a decent contributor but Blessuan may never see the field with his injury history.

LOL I read your post and started thinking jalen mills not ramsey for some reason. Yes Ramsey would be great - no chance that happening though. Maybe our rooks will be decent contributors like you say, but still not decent starters and lets be honest - do we really even trust if Trumaine was healthy he would be decent? He has shown no evidence of his ability since his days with the RAMS. We knew CB was weak and that was before him and Brown had hammy's. I dont see how we dont go knocking down some of these doors for a cornerback. I mean if I look at the potential of this team - could we really flush a season down the drain because of a cornerback and a kicker...would be a shame.

To me when you look at the state of Center, Kicker, and CB before Mac left - and the rest of the team that was assembled - it becomes crystal clear why he needed to go. Also, if our new GM can solve the other 2 of these problems like he possibly did at Center - he will go down as G-D status in my book. No other GM in Jets history (minus when Parcels was here) would of worked as much magic in as short a time period.

watching the amount of pressure that we can generate, even without a true edge presence would be really frightening if we had some decent coverage guys.

I've been saying that about Johnson since he got here that he is definitely not living up to the money he's being paid. I don't trust Johnson at all of being a #1 CB and Poole and Roberts are not really even #2 guys. The Jets will have some real issues when they play against teams like the Browns, Pats, Eagles, Cowboys and Steelers for example. Teams that have quality WR(s). Darnold and that offense will have to score ALOT of points those games to have a chance in winning. Other then that, the front seven will have to be in the QB front and back pockets in like seconds flat in order to compensate for our CB issues.

I’m not so certain about that.

We are getting way too “black and white” in talking about TJ. Just because he underperformed his contract last season doesn’t mean he sucks. Inconsistent is a better description. He was expected to be a lockdown CB, and his contract demanded that he be. But there were moments last season when he shined. He actually had a few good games. But this year he has to be better, no doubt.

I think Poole is better than you give him credit for, too. He played well in the slot for ATL last season from the stats and commentary I’ve read. I read that they wanted him back for less than what the Jets gave him.

Inconsistent I can go with that! I wasn't necessarily calling him garbage. So if I gave you that impression that is incorrect but he's underperformed in a major way for his contract and I definitely don't trust Johnson. Hopefully he changes my mind on that this year. Poole and Roberts might actually be better then I think they are but I have to see it to believe it.

Johnson was overpaid. He was ranked 38th amongst Corners when we signed him. To expect him to play like a top 2 which he was paid like is unrealistic. I know someone will pull the pff stat he was the#1 press corner, but he played press a minimal # of snaps and was awful outside those snaps. He also has a long history of costly, drive extending penalties.
Poole struggled in coverage last year and his stats mostly came when playing strong safety.
Our Corners are bad, the Falcons WRs had separation all night. Hopefully the offense can put up a ton of points to keep us in games.

Easy - Williams has no value to us after this season. He is a good player but a total bust for a # overall 6th pick. His one good year was when Richardson and Wilkerson picked up the doubles for him. So as any decent player he can beat a man 1 on 1 and get numbers, but the instant he had to deal with doubles his numbers went and stayed in the toilet. Top players still get the numbers with double teams and elevate those around them, decent players cant deal with them and only play above average when they have someone "like Q" around them. So basically if he has a breakout year it would not be suprising, but why on earth should we pay a guy who plays above average big time money when he can only perform like that when we have a top dline member supporting him. That would be like using the #6 overall on him over again - If he was drafted today he would be .a late first round early second round pick. Now since after this season he will leave and we will be left with only a compensary pick in a future draft. Wouldnt it be better to cash in now and fill a position of need like CB?

As far as Maye - hes a top 10 safety when healthy....don't close your eyes you may miss him being healthy. Do players like that ever really last with longevity. He's a lemon. Even if he stays healthy this season - you know he will be injured next season. So why not cash in. Now I am more inclined to keep him over leonard simply because leonard is in his 5th year and will never be a great player only decent and requiring large amounts of money.

Just so I understand this correctly, a player is a good player, but “a total bust” because he’s not putting up the one stat everyone focuses on: sacks?

Leonard Williams lost Wilkerson and Richardson, and got double teamed soon after because he was the only person teams had to worry about. And we’re surprised his sack numbers dipped?

Let’s see what happens this year with Quinnen Williams taking some focus off Leo, and the Jets having a much better defensive coordinator running the show.

If I saw the stats on Matt Ryan against us last week correctly, pretty sure we sacked him 4 or 5 times, but he completed every other pass when he didn't get sacked.

That's ridiculous. I think 10 of 14 with 4 sacks.?

So we only need around 60 sacks a game for this defense to be successful.

That would be correct, well it might have been 3 sacks but Ryan throw for over 100 yards. Two real easy TD passes were dropped that the DBs had nothing to do with. The front seven better get to the QB fast or the defense will get torched time and time again.
