Personally, I just think Bridgewater should win out based on experience and that he was pretty good on an ok team. I'd rather Darnold wins and becomes the greatest QB ever and sticks around for 20 years. I don't claim to know anything but Tom what of read and based on his age of 20, I'll be surprised if he's ready this year. That said, he seems like a smart kid and if he hits the books hard, who knows?
I hear you. I’d have no issues with Bridgewater starting and playing the entire year if needed and ofcourse if he’s playing well. I’d be sorta worried if this was the case, that come next year would he be so willing to give the spot up if Darnold is ready??? Maybe he wouldn’t have a choice but then again that wouldn’t be fair to him to then just snatch the job from him. Guess that’s where the trade scenario comes in huh! McCown it’s simple, Darnold probably beats him out by game one anyway and if he doesn’t, McCown plays his way out the job or gets injured and hopefully Darnold is ready to go by then. If by some chance Darnold sits the entire year to McCown, McCown knows it’s Darnold’s job when he’s ready. Bridgewater won’t take it so easy. He’s only 25 or 26 and still wants to be a full time starter and rightfully so. This will all amount to healthy competition either way and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Teddy is on a one year deal so him not being willing to give up the starting role next season isn't an issue.
The trade scenario would have to be a preseason trade or a trade by the trade deadline.
I am not opposed to Sam starting if he clearly wins the job and I think a tie should go to Teddy, to give Darnold a bit more time to get acclimated. But what is the upside in having a nearly 40 year old guy with a limited upside starting for us as we begin our youth movement? I think he would make a great backup and mentor to Darnold but I am not looking forward to him starting. It reminds me of when Fitz came in and had a great year for us and then fell off a cliff the next year. I think the likelihood of McCown putting two good years together in a row is not too good.
I'm with you. I think Bridgewater has a good chance at winning the #1 spot in the preseason. He actually should win it. I don't know much about Teddy ,but i think he was a scrambler and those guys don't stick around all season, so it may be better if Darnold somehow wins out. At 20, that will be tough.
Not sure I agree with Sack that if teddy wins the job he's traded. Why trade your best Qb?
