ESPN's Todd Archer said Dalton Schultz could be a candidate for the Cowboys' franchise tag this offseason.

Schultz is sure to get plenty of interest in free agency after posting 78 receptions, 808 yards, and nine touchdowns in 2021. Mark Andrews and Travis Kelce were the only tight ends to record more catches this year, and only five tight ends had more receiving yards than Schultz. Archer said Schultz and Randy Gregory are the most likely Cowboys players to be slapped with the franchise tag this offseason. Schultz, Archer said, could fetch as much money as Hunter Henry did last year, when Henry signed with the Patriots for $37.5 million over three years. Blake Jarwin, signed through 2023, would have plenty of fantasy appeal as the Cowboys' TE1 if Schultz finds another home in the coming months.

While it would be nice to snag a prospect like him, I don’t know about spending what it would cost on a rebuilding team . We’re not ready for that type of pickup yet.

Nah we got to sign some of our own free agents, save some money for Q next year and continue to build this roster . In year 3 after we make the jump in year 2, then you look to add those veteran pieces to augment the kids .
I continue with these 1-2 year free agent additions this year with the potential to get out of the contract after 2022 season .

this is a Carl Lawson type signing.....it is the right time/guy
He’s going to cost way more than Lawson ever did. The Bengals were planning on upgrading on Lawson and that’s why we got him, People are talking about franchise tagging this TE . He won’t come cheap and we’re not ready for him yet .
I won’t complain if we sign the guy .

I think its time. Schultz would do wonders for Wilson's development while they could look to work with each other. A 5 year commitment for Schultz..

The time has been long overdue because it's pathetic how I'm 36 years old and the best pass catching TE I've ever witnessed as a Jet was Dustin Dustin freaking Keller.

Schultz market value is currently listed as $12M and I'd gladly enjoy Joe Douglas paying him that type of money and would still strike a top tier TE durung the 2nd round.

Enough is enough already in regards to crap TE after crap TE and for decades at a time too.
I agree. But I do believe JD may look for quantity over quality because there are many holes to fill. For Schultz money….He can get Njoku and a slightly better JAG at another position of need, then go balls out for a FA receiver. But…. He has to hit on his first 4 picks in April. Just got a feeling that we aren’t drafting a WR before round 3. My guess…. 1a. OL. 1b EDGE 2a TE,, 2b. LB. Rd1 may be flipped if one of the top 2 EDGE guys are still there
