Sam Darnold played the entire second half of the season, from the Jags game on, with torn ligaments in his left thumb. While this might not have impacted his throwing much, it came with much pain, and it did impact his ball handling.

That we knew very little about this until now is a testament to Darnold himself and his toughness. It's also good that this had not really leaked, at least not the severity of the injury.

The injury was pretty widely known. Darnold wore a brace on the left hand after the injury. Fitz had the same procedure when he was here and missed 9 days in season. Fortunately Darnold will be 100% in a couple of weeks. Then he can get working on his footwork and mechanics.

Surgery, no matter how minor is no fun. Let's cut the kid some slack here. If he had a line in front of him he could be real good. Or a couple receivers.... Or a real head coach....
