The articles are failing to mention that he earned an additional $2.5 million bonus for the win. So he earned $2.678 mill that is getting taxed
Just think, NY actually charges 2.9% more for the jock tax than CA. He would have payed considerably more. Ca has a higher jock tax but only taxed the players 8% per repots.
That's one of the main reasons athlete's get into tax trouble. They have to pay state tax to every state they play in. Some cities also impose a jock tax. Philly charges 3.9% on top of Pennsylvania's tax.
