What is your take on the way Lee played yesterday? I have been watching some other boards and everyone is busy stroking his balls. They say he's a great kid, which I think is probably true. They say his coverage skills are great. Here's where I question that.. He may have kept up with Jimmy Graham yesterday, but he never caused Graham to drop a pass even once. He never got his hands up and knocked down a pass. He never managed to knock Graham off his route within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. He just tackled after Graham after the damage was done. This was a guy that was drafted to cover TE's among other things. If this is what we can look forward to with Lee then it clearly isn't working. Graham burned Lee yesterday and it will only get much worse when the Jets face the Patsies. I think Verne is in over his head.........

he needs to learn to turn his head and compete for the ball. he is not bad and I see a lot of potential but he is a rook and there is always pain with these guys.

I watched him play live in KC..... and I thought he had a great game. Remember, Graham is like 6 8 ..... Lee is 6 inches shorter. His coverage was there....... he just needs to play the ball better, which will come in time. Overall, I think he has been a good pick.... not great.... but lets give him time get his feet wet a bit more. The guy I'm a bit perplexed about is Mauldin. Did he even play yesterday? I thought he was our rush specialist, an although he has a couple of sacks this season, I don't remember seeing him once yesterday

So far so good is what I think. He has made some plays, and he has made some mistakes, but overall I like what he brings to the team.

I think that he will be fine. To judge a rookie based upon his outing against a perennial pro-bowler is a bit harsh. He exhibits a lot of very good traits, both athletically and intelligence-wise. The only think lacking is experience right now, but despite that he has held his own for the most part.

He played well... We are knocking him for some great catches by Graham when he had really good coverage, he wasn't burnt at all... C'Mon man!!

It really is NOT fair to judge him not even half way into his rookie season...

Darron Lee has been okay.

I'm fairly optimistic he will be a good player, but not an impact player (hope I'm wrong), mostly because its hard to make a big impact at ILB in a pass heavy league, even as a coverage specialist, or at OLB for that matter if you are not an elite pass rusher.

That said, its no secret I didn't love the pick when we made it, to put it mildly, and I preferred Paxton Lynch. I wasn't sky high on Lynch either, but I thought he had some genuine potential, enough upside to take a chance at 20 and hope for the best. I'm of the opinion that you don't pass on a potential franchise QB unless you already have one, and obviously we don't already have one.

Hopefully Petty or Hack will change that, then passing on Lynch will be moot. However, if neither emerges as a franchise QB and Denver has found their starter for the next decade, which is what I fear, then passing on Lynch for Lee will have been a big mistake, how big depends on how good Lynch is more than how good Lee is.

could we see Lee be moved back to safety? I mean we see safeties move to linebacker, why not vice versa?

he would be an upgrade to coverage safety, with his experience of playing in the box they will be able to do more with him at safety?

I wouldn't get worked up about his coverage on Graham. The dude is an all world tight end. I think he's been ok for the most part. Nothing spectacular, like the rest of our defense so far.

Well, maybe I should word things a little better.........

Per Todd Bowles Darron Lee was drafted to play inside, outside, and cover TE's. Those were the HC's words. What I saw on Sunday was a kid with lightning speed that kept right up with Jimmy Graham, but never got his head around or put his hands up to defend any passes. But even at that rate, will he be able to knock down passes when he actually does get his head around?? It's already been mentioned that Verne gives away several inches in height to these big TE's we faced the last two weeks. So assuming he actually can get his act together and start looking to knock down passes, can he actually get up high enough to knock them down?

As Ham mentioned this kid is NOT an impact player and that is really my biggest gripe. We needed a high to hit big going into this season and instead we really just got a very ho hum average kind of player. He's just a regular, but extremely small, linebacker with strongly exaggerated skills by the CS. At least that is what I see. This pick is not even in the same arena as Leonard Williams was just a year ago.............

We're grading Darron Lee four games into his rookie season?

Man, it must be slow around here. I think he's looked fine for a rookie.

The image in my head of Lee is a good one.

The big graham catch on the left sideline, Lee was right there and stuck his arm up in between graham's, his arm angle was 6"too steep and he whiffed as the ball came in. Of course he was a rookie lb the height of a corner rushing to defend a pass on the sideline against a hall of famer, but I thought he was 99% on his way to knocking it down. David Harris would have been 3 steps late.

That's a small lesson to learn and fix. If he just went for graham's hands instead of citing the ball off,he would have had it. I chalk that up to being 4 games into his rookie season. He has the most energy and coverage ability in that group, I'm satisfied with where he is at this moment.
