We are probably closer to fielding an elite Defense than an elite QB. The way I see it, Fitz > Manning last year.
If our defense improves where we are a threat at rushing the passer, we can go far. I dont want to get my hopes up but things are looking up.
As for Bowles and Mac, year one was a success. I hope they can build on it. I am not passing judgment. You criticize the middle of the season where the team played like crap, however, you fail to give him credit for how he pulled the team together and got them out of the slump. Being a rookie, inexperienced coach, things can spiral out of your control rather quickly.
I hate to bring Rex Ryan into this because it is going to get you to go off on a tangent. But last year, the team felt like a complete team, everyone celebrating and rooting together. There was legit chemistry. I didn't feel that chemistry with the Jets teams even when we were winning under Rex. Rex Ryan put the defense against the offense too many times. It was one sided and it really felt like we were two different teams. Bowles is the perfect compliment to Rex. He's still a player's coach but is tough on the players if they disappoint him.
But he didn't finish Elias, so where's the praise to be had? I agree that he made some changes and it started the team back in the right direction. But the finish, however, is the MOST disappointing thing. And years from now, when people think about this season, what are they going to remember? Jets fans, specifically, might remember the 5 game winning streak, but NOT any other fan.
They are going to remember thinking that the team looked like monsters. A team that was going to be a problem in the playoffs because they were healthy and playing their best football. Then, they are going to remember the team inexplicably playing like sh*t against their hated rival coach no less, and losing.
As far as I am concerned, if he wasn't going to beat the Bills and end the season the right way, then WTF is the point? It's almost a REQUIREMENT to finish the season the right way.
And there's actually some sense to be made out of that. We all know when any HC starts a job that the requirements are always a bit lax. It's like they are required to get a free pass? From there the expectations ALWAYS get harder and more lofty. They are NEVER going to get easier.
So when you go on a 5 game winning streak, albeit against a bunch of bottom feeders, you have to finish it the right way. You must finish it the right way.
Say what you want, but 10 years from now all anyone is going to remember is losing to Rex Ryan and the Bills on the last day of the season with the playoffs on the line.
