Dee Milliner Needs A Bounce Back Game

It’s safe to say that former first-round pick Dee Milliner is a bust. The thing holding Milliner back is injuries. The most amount of games that he’s played in a year was 13 in his rookie year (2013).

Milliner played in merely three games in 2014 and that barely changed in 2015, when he played just five games, not exactly what the Jets were hoping for.

He was drafted to be Darelle Revis’ replacement. Well, Revis Island has returned and now Dee Milliner is fighting for a roster spot.

When the Jets drafted Juston Burris in the fourth round this year, it became clear that Milliner would be fighting for a spot on the team. In his first preseason game, he didn’t look so hot.

Milliner got burned a couple of times and just looked confused on his assignments, not exactly the look you want if you are someone on the bubble.

All Dee Milliner has to show for is one good game in his career, the last game of the 2013 season when he picked off Ryan Tannehill twice.

Milliner wasn’t drafted by this regime which is another reason why he might not be here much longer. He’s got a lot going against him, actually, which is a reason why he has a lot to prove.

He has to make a big play in one of these preseason games to stick out. If — and it’s a big if — he can stay healthy he might have a shot. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for being rusty in the first preseason game.

No excuses this week. He has to have a better week. Otherwise, he will be out of a job real quick.

What game in particular is he ever going to bounce back to??? Are we still stuck talking about approximately a 3 week span playing against bad opponents in a season, 3 seasons removed???

Come on.......You have to do better than this. Dee Milliner is the very definition of a bust. How anyone could possibly want to differ about that at this point is beyond me.

Actually I figure the only reason he is clinging to a roster spot is because os salary cap implications. If it weren't for that, he would have been cut already..

Frankly, I be happy if he could regain his form he showed at the end of his rookie season. Otherwise, I agree...

The bust label always gets lazily tossed around by fans regarding young players. However, even I have to admit that Milliner is getting close to meeting that description. I've liked what I've seen from him at times when he's been out there, but last week was a bad performance. He got schooled.

He better get it together this week. It's got to get better. And consistent. Oherwise he's going to get released or find his way down to #5 on the depth chart for the season.

If anyone is in trouble at the CB position, it is Dex McD who is injured again having tweeked his hamstring.

That's another guy that the Jets should be damn near done with. Has this guy ever played in a regular season game? If he has, please tell me because I can't ever remember him reaching the field....

I haven't given up on Dee yet, or Dex for that matter. They haven't been healthy. That obviously has to change.

Milliner will most likely make the final roster. It costs the Jets 4 M to keep him, and 4 million to cut him.

The Jets did not pick up the 5th year option on him, so in all likely hood, barring a dramatic turn around, this will be his final year here

on the Dexter McDougle front it looks like he is on his way out... probably sooner than later...

Milliner has all the tools but is made of glass... this regime is giving him all the chances to make the final cut but they will release him if he doesn't show and progression in the next two preseason games...

hey, i'm as unhappy with neither being able to get/stay on the field as you.. but both also came into the league having problems staying healthy in college.. they might be physically talented guys that are flat out brittle??

or they might be half ass-ing their off season conditioning..

what i do know is the current regime didn't draft either one of em.....

It bothers me when players are payed millions to play a game, they accept it, and then disappear if there's an injury. Bum knee or not, you are a team, I expect to see guys on ir at the team facility supporting their teammates. Last year Jace peaced out and never returned. That behavior is not acceptable.

this very reason is why Jace is on the bubble this preseason...

Apparently, he wasn't at facility but by all accounts Amaro worked extremely hard in the offseason coming to camp in great shape. Supposedly, he also worked very hard on his hands in the offseason catching 100's of balls each day from JUGS machine and employing techniques he learned from Marshall. Not sure I ever read where he wasn't at facility or if he wasn't was there an excused absence to recuperate from shoulder surgery. Did Bowles or MM ever comment publicly about that? They may have, I just never heard or saw it in print. I agree however that the next couple of preseason games are going to big for Jace, if he doesn't show all of the positives from practice will be for naught.

When Amaro had to come in for his mandatory physical in the middle of the season it was reported by several scribes that was the only time he had been at the facility the entire season. At that time, as a comparison, it was reported that Sudfeld was at the facility every day.

No Bowles never commented on it. He never comments on anything he doesn't have to. It is rather unusual that a player doesn't interact with the team during an IR. He can't practice with the team, but he can do everything else. Attend team meeting, watch film with coaches, learn technique in blocking, which he is horrible at, just be a part of the team.

The Facility the Jets have has been widely hailed as one of the best re-hab facilities in the NFL. Very strange he wasn't there taking advantage of it. He certainly needed work with the coaches.

He did come in to camp seeming to be lighter, and had a lot to say about the work he had done, and all the great things he is going to do this year, but he was never short on self promotion. He seemed to be having a good camp as a receiver, but it was also reported during the camp tweets, that he was being knocked around by Jordan Jenkins on a regular basis.

IMO Amaro can be a very effective TE but he needs to get his act together, starting this week. He didn't have any catches last week, but he did seem to beat coverage on two occasions, the ball just didn't get to him.

He needs to have something this week. Think he will as a receiver , but there is more to being a TE then receiving.

He is currently the #2 TE on the depth chart to Kellen Davis. Lets face it, Davis is not exactly an All Pro TE.

Amaro has the skills, he needs to bring it to the field

We'll see. His emergence as an additional receiving threat would really round out the offense. Blocking was never required of him at Texas Tech, so its not surprising he's not good at it. I also read that it was something he has put a lot of effort into improving. That may be just something he knows everyone wants to hear, but at least he recognizes the weakness. Imagine the problems the 6 receivers (BM,Deck,Enunwa,Forte & Powell) would present with an effective Amaro. I know you can't play them all at once, but what a rotation that would be, particularly in the red zone. I'm willing to wait on him a bit before I condemn him to the waste pile.

Agree with most of our post. Amaro has the tools to be a major contributor to the team. But if he is going to move past Davis on the depth chart (honestly shouldn't be hard to do) He has to realize he isn't at Texas tech anymore, and there is a lot more required of him. He has the size to be a good blocker, so far he hasn't shown the will.

As I said, I agree that IF he can make, what appears to be a mental adjustment, he has the tools be an outstanding TE.

He needs to actually do it. Like you said "We'll see"
