Interesting the way the two hottest head coach hires, Bowles and Quinn both got off to fast starts, faced mid-season crises, but one of them was able to bounce back. Falcons are still in a tail spin, but Bowles has the Jets playing very well.
If reports are to be believed, Quinn was Woody's first choice, but Seattle made it back to the Super Bowl and there was a real risk of losing Bowles, the guy Casserly & Wolf really liked, if we waited around for Quinn and he chose another team.

At that point, its been reported, Woody essentially asked Quinn for assurances, the proverbial wink and a nod handshake agreement if you will, and he wouldn't give it, so Mac was given the green light to move quickly on Bowles.

This is basically the story as I've read it, and if its true, I think we can all agree that Quinn's refusal to give any assurances was a blessing in disguise. I think its fair to say that if the Jets could do it all over again, this time knowing they could have either guy, they would choose Bowles over Quinn in a heartbeat ... and again, if reports are true, thats the guy Casserly and Wolf favored too, so its not a big surprise that Bowles appears to be the better HC after their rookie seasons.

We have 76 penalties all year long. Only the Steelers have committed less.
Thats a great stat, I was not aware of that, but thats extremely impressive, especially when you consider the undisciplined team Bowles inherited. In fact, if you recall, penalties were a huge problem in the preseason, we were raking them up by the bushel basket, at an alarming rate, the leftover residue of the undisciplined team we became under Rex, and Bowles made a BIG DEAL about it, he didn't try to minimize it because it was only preseason, he made penalties a huge emphasis and was determined to get it corrected, so its not like we're #2 by accident, its not just luck, the HC made a concerted effort to get this thing under control, and he made no attempts to hide his displeasure.

Best part is that Bowles came with Gailey, Quinn with Kyle Shanahan who has been awful.
