VCU basketball player-turned-TE Mo Alie-Cox visiting Jets
The Jets are thinking outside the box to try to help fix their dilemma at tight end.
Virginia Commonwealth University basketball player Mo Alie-Cox is visiting the Jets facility on Friday, according to a source.
The 6-6, 262-pound Alie-Cox, who hasn’t played football since his freshman year in high school, worked out as a tight end for NFL scouts in Richmond, Va., earlier this week. Alie-Cox’s athleticism has intrigued plenty of clubs, but it’s no secret that the Jets have the most dire tight end situation in the league.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who had 10 receptions for 110 yards in seven games last season, is the team’s best option at the moment. (Seferian-Jenkins will be suspended for the first two games of 2017, by the way).
Tight ends were non-factors in two seasons with Chan Gailey. New offensive coordinator John Morton is expected to get them more involved.
Could Alie-Cox, who averaged 9.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and two blocks for VCU last season, make a successful transition from hoops to the gridiron like Antonio Gates or Jimmy Graham?
Time will tell.
