Ryan has little to say & even less he can do about it.
The academic standards for all Wisconsin student athletes is one of the toughest in the nation.
But even though his recruiting is severely curtailed by it, and even though his roundballers are almost exclusively local & from the surrounding states like Illinois/Indiana & rarely from places where street ball is king, (LA, NYC, S. Fla, TX), Ryan lands intelligent players with sound fundamentals and the ability to understand his complex game plans.
What he would not do, (and why his players are probably ill-equipped to play in the NBA), is unleash the dogs and play "thug-ball" - which Coach K did when Duke found itself losing at the 9 minute mark.
#1 Son & I started counting up the number of deliberate blows to the head by Duke players to Badger players over the last 10 minutes of the game.
There was a point when we considered that game to not be a basketball game, but a Cruiserweight boxing match, in which the Badgers had to wear gloves while the thugs from Duke used bare knuckles.
(Need any more proof than Decker's face at the end of the game? The guy looked like he'd gone 15 rounds with Yoan Pablo Hernández Suárez. Cut lip, scratched cornea, & contusions covering his entire cheeks, forehead, and chin.)
Stephen A. on 'First Take' was highly critical of Bo Ryan for not taking off the gloves in such a big game, and perhaps he was right, but HYATT™ finds no shame in playing with good sportsmanship and going down in defeat, if the opponent had to cheat to win.
Enjoy your 5th National Championship title Coach K, but some of us know you'll always know how low you had to stoop to get it.
