The "rumor" appears to have originated in the lame brain of Dick Semen and seems to be corroborated nowhere else.

Can't really say that's a trade rumor. Just some bozo asking Cimini a question.

No way in the world this trade happens

According to the article Thomas isn't quite a gray beard yet, he's 31, D'Brick is 32. I'd be willing to bet quite a bit the Jets aren't giving up 24 YO Sheldon Richardson for Thomas. Or a 1st round draft pick.

The question came from a fan, Cimini shot it down.

The article did bring up a very interesting point though. Thomas, who is very unhappy, has 3 years left on his contract at 19.7 million. D'Brick has 2 years at 23.3. Thomas is still playing at a high level. The Jets for sure will approach Brick to take a pay cut. If I'm Macc I hold up Thomas' contract as the top I'd pay. 6.5+- million a year. If Brick balks at it, I'm making some phone calls.

From what I've seen from Macc in the Marshall, and Fitz deals he's not giving up the farm for an older productive player, but he is willing to sweeten the deal with the players agent, as they did with Marshall, to make the player want to push for the deal.

If Brick becomes a problem, I would become a player for Thomas, but I'm not giving up Richardson, a #1, or #2. If nothing else use Thomas as a bargaining chip against Brick. I don't think his open market value is more then 6.5 Saves the Jets 7.5 against the cap.

If this isn't really a rumor yet, maybe we can make it one. :global (47):

Brick had lower production, and is older than Thomas. The tradeoff is nominal and Thomas could decline at any moment, nothing is guaranteed.

The smart move is to restructure for continuity, and keep adding o line through free agency. Stud o line guys are still cheap compared to other fa contracts, and you have the added benefit of nfl experience.
Trading mo or Richardson would only make sense if it brings in a game changer at a deficient position, like Houston lb in kc.

You don't trade a star for a declining linemen.
