Former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has narrowed the list of teams he's considering signing with to the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Elliott is reportedly aiming to make a decision on his destination by the end of next week. The report didn't detail the listed teams' interest in Elliott.

A seven-season veteran with the Cowboys, Elliott was perhaps the highest-profile player in Dallas during his tenure. He earned three Pro Bowl berths and twice led the NFL in rushing — once as a rookie in his 2016 All-Pro season and again in 2018.

The Cowboys released Ellliott on March 15 as he approached the fifth year of a six-year, $90 million contract. His release coincided with a steady decline in his production, the emergence of Cowboys running back Tony Pollard and the continued devaluation of running backs across the NFL. Elliott's $15 million annual salary wasn't in line with the salaries of top-tier NFL running backs, much less those on the decline.

Elliott, 27, remained the starter in Dallas last season, but his production lagged behind Pollard's. Elliott posted 968 yards from scrimmage while averaging 3.8 yards per carry, both career lows. He remains a durable back who has played fewer than 15 games in just one season, and he was tied for fifth in the NFL with 12 rushing touchdowns in 2022.

He projects as a time-share candidate or a backup at his next stop. How would he fit at his preferred destinations?

There is a beautiful Twitter interaction between Hall and Carter regarding this.

Zeke is washed ….no thanks. We are going to get bombed with every free agent has been that comes down the pike. The Rodgers effect……. I think it’s great that people WANT to play for us (even if they are has been’s) as opposed to years of using us as a tool to get money elsewhere.

If the deal was cheap enough I'd take him, Hall could be ready to start the season but that will be one hell of a recovery, Carter is a little fragile and showed his limitations as a lead back, saying that I would be happy to roll with Bam and Carter for the first couple of games until Hall is fully up to speed, I wouldn't want to risk him going down injured again, our season crumbled when he went out plus AVT of course.

I think Zeke has way overestimated his own value. Watching him last season, it was clear that he has lost a step and isn't the same player. Having Pollard hit the field just made Zeke look worse! Pollard looked like lightning compared to Zeke.

Zeke should have kept his mouth shut and evaluated what his market is. Him coming out with this short list of desired teams is just embarrassing now (since none of them are interested). Next time, let your representation handle that behind the scenes and stay off of social media!

I would not mind Zeke coming in on a friendly 1 year contract to spell Breece and use him on Goal line situations.

He also wants his old #15 wherever he winds up. If it turns out to be here he'll have to arm wrestle Strevler for it...... or pay for it..........or take whatever they give him and like it.........or not like it and wear it anyway...... :cheezy:
