Letting go of a Pro Bowl kicker seems really stupid. Good kickers are hard to find.
The way I see it, the Jets have 4-years to make this contract worth it and get all they can out of Bell before he starts to decline. He is a premiere and all world player but he is 27-years old and at the tail end of his PRIME. I figure by the time this contract is up, Bell will start to give a lot less then he did his first ten years in the league, so they must get the most out of him and Darnold together. Build the oline (this year) and draft a top flight WR (someway-somehow) and they can win a SB by the time this 4-year contract is up. Bell can average (with no serious injuries of course) 250-280 carries for 1100-1500 yards, 60-80 receptions for 600-1000 yards and 10-20 TDs combined over this four year contract. After that, unless Bell can defeat the odds, those type of stats will decline after he turns 31 and it will be time to slowly start looking for Bell's replacement. So the Jets have to make this happen over the next 4 years, it's there best chance to win a SB with Bell in his prime.
The signings of C Harrison, CB Roberts, and NT McClendon confirm that the drastic overhaul of this team was overstated. Some fans don’t want to hear this, but all three played well last season and might be starters at their respective positions.
CB Poole from ATL might be brought in as a slot CB, although he’s on to Cincinnati for a visit now. Other than that, I’m wondering how much more is actually going to be done from here on out. I think the heavy lifting is over.

to add to that, there are plenty of players who will be released before the season starts, including after the draft. the jets will have the cap room to get these players, or trade for veterans from teams looking to offload contracts.

Vontaze Burfict released by the Bengals. 28 years old. Tremendous talent, but a penalty prone knucklehead. Totally unreliable to his team. Wasted talent.

Each have a flaw or two. But each could address needs for the Jets. Houston (30) can still rush the passer for a few years, Dennard (27) has been a little disappointing as a former high first round pick, but he’s pretty good in the slot. (Poole acquisition might make him not necessarily a need, though.) And Cobb is a 28 year old guy who’s productive but has been banged up a little too much.

I wish Mac would have offered that, but being 30 I'm not mad. Colts are way closer to SB than we are. Not like he was a 15 sack/year guy. He had 22 sacks in '14. And only two other years with 10 and 11. Hasn't always been healthy over the last few years. To me, this means we have to stay at #3 and get a pass rusher.

houston has said he was looking for a best fit with a contender and not just top dollar. he said hes made plenty of money in his career, so that wasn't his priority. so it's not likely he would have taken that deal, or anything close, from the jets
The reason he hasn't been signed is because he closed that book and retired :-(
