Filling out the offensive line

Lets say the jets decided to take Penei Sewell with the #2 pick in the draft and Rashawn Slater makes it to say pick 9with the Denver Broncos . What assets would you be willing to trade away to away to acquire him and would you make the move .

I wouldn't take Sewell at #2. I'd rather trade down twice if possible and grab Slater 9-12, then grab a center and developmental tackle later.

We as fans complain about how the QB sucks but aren't willing to do what it takes to protect him and give him the time to make plays . The Jets have 3 picks in the top 34 and can possibly come away with 3 starters on offense or 2 offensive starters and a defensive starter but we want to trade down and add players who might start in 2 years . In 2 years Saleh gets fired and we start this mess all over again .
You can't fix everything in 1 season, so fix the offense this year and work on the defense as best you can . Defense is already pretty solid as it is .

The folks who have been here for a long time will tell you that we've been preaching the upgrading of the offensive line for years, through the entire term of the past GM who never considered O-line as a drafting priority.

I would like our quarterback to be allotted the brady rule, where it's a penalty to get anywhere near him. then we dont need an offense line at all and we can work on building the rest of the team. imagine being able to count to 5 before throwing the ball. every single time. Even Dunderhead would look good under those conditions

The problem is, we're still not sure of that last sentence.

I'm not saying that OL isn't a priority. In fact drafting Slater, a potential pro-bowl IOL with traded down pick is just as good as drafting Sewell in my mind plus you're getting additional 2nds and 2022 1sts and more. Use those additional premium picks, and 2nd and 3rd round picks are premium picks, particularly with the depth of OL in this draft. We should be able to grab an OT like Michigan's Mayfield in early to mid 2nd, OG like Georgia's Cleveland in 3rd - 4th, and Quinn Meinerz in 3rd - 4th. These guys are all very good prospects and drafting one or more of them with the added draft capital is not ignoring the OL. Douglas might be in the best situation he could ask for with that #2 pick. If he uses it wisely as I suggest we have rebuilt the OL, plus filled holes this year and next in other positions of need.

If it's me. i draft an OL with the 1st round pick early, then i do t again late in the 1st and on day 2 i go get my feature RB . I want Slater to play LG. If not him, then on Day 2 i'm turning my attention to Wyatt Davis . Along the way i'm looking at Ojulari, Vera-Tucker, Teven Jenkins and Landon Dickerson who gets the yr off to recover behind McGovern .

I personally think we are fine with the running backs that we have. When they got on the field last year they were effective. They just never got on the field. With old man Gore deciding when he was playing and our idiot head coach just giving him free reign, we barely got to see the you g guys.

Was listening to Dan Jeremiah on NFL network talk about Vera-Tucker during USC's pro day, and he said the similarities to Zach Martin are striking. He's another guy you could plug-in mid 1st round if we are looking for a premium IOL guy from 12-20 (doubt he'll last any longer than that).

I am for trading down with either Atlanta or Carolina or both to acquire additional 2nd Rd picks and 1st Rd picks next year. I don't know if Sewell or Slater will be available at #8 but its possible. Nobody expected Leonard Williams to slip to us when we drafted him nor Adams either. So its possible. We have a lot of needs that cannot be acquired in one draft. With the trade downs we will have the draft capital for next year too. This years draft is deep at offensive lineman, cornerbacks, Wide Receivers and Edge rushers in the 1st 2 Rds. Those are 4 big needs for us now.

I would go with what's available at say #8 Sewell, Slater, or one of the CB's. At 23 if we missed on Sewell or Slater take the best Offensive Lineman. In the 2nd Rd I would look for a Guard, Tackle or Center who may have slipped out of round #1. One thing on Douglas I don't like is he being an ex Offensive Lineman, he sucks at picking FA OL.

Tucker could be there at 23

Experience at LT, C, RT should allow to draft IOL (Guards on both sides) Don't know if the new regime looks at Cameron Clark the way Joe Douglas does... Since he got no snaps last year we know why but it doesn't bode well for Clark...

Getting Sewell would change this concept it would give us a RT with LT experience have need for a swing tackle is that McDermott, Edoga or Fant...

Signing Feeney is he the new backup center or is he competing for starting guard role and what is up with Alex Lewis...

A lot of what ifs?

Where does Joe Douglas stand with his players?
Does the new offense and game plan work better with what we have or do we draft to improve?
Can a Wyatt Davis or Vera Tucker step in day one and make the line better?

With free agent signings the expected focus on the draft is OL, CB, LB...

Is it an issue with ex-coach, injuries or just not ready for the NFL. My guess its a combination of all three, but would like to hear your take.

Clark could be our future LG or RG. He got no snaps last year, but look who was our coach last year.

The more I read about Clark after we picked him the more I liked the pick. Thought he was one of those under the radar types that would do well once given the opportunity. I'm hoping he steps up this year and takes the job.

Becton, Clark on the left side could be good hope he wins the job....

I went back and looked at his draft profile and it said his strengths are his strength/power, finishes well in run game and technique, but he's not overly athletic. Perhaps and hopefully they were reflecting on his ability to play on the outside at OT and not at OG. Thought at the time that he and Becton would a dynamic run blocking duo on the left side. Now I'm not so sure whether he'd be a fit in the current scheme.
