Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week (374 yards vs Buffalo). He has won it three times in 18 games as a Jet.

EDIT: 5 times in his career.

It will be interesting if Fitz can repeat his performance against the Bills again. In fact, it would be interesting if Fitz can play at that level for rest of the season. It would be the first time having back to back good games & seasons. I hope Fitz can play good enough to beat Chiefs aka CHEFS. lol

unless fitzpatrick has morphed in marino in his prime, he's not going to play at that level for the rest of the season..

the rest of the bolded is wildly inaccurate..

If he continues with the all whites and shoes , screw Marino , Fitz can channel his innermost "Joe Willie"

LOLz whatever fitzpatrick was "channeling" last thursday, let's hope he rides it until the wheels fall off!!

i'm really starting to believe he's a late bloomer & if he breaks his own franchise TD record, he's going to want to get paid better than a low tier starting NFL QB.. as well he should.....

i really like those "all white" uniforms, BTW.. very sharp!!

I really doubt it he'll be able to repeat that performance for two reasons:

1) You could make a case to say that game was Fitz's very best as a pro. Kind of hard to repeat numbers that happen to be your personal bests.

2) Buffalo is division opponent. These games are never as one sided statistically as this one was. The Jets offense pretty much owned the Bills defense. These teams know each other too well. I am sure they will return to a much competitive, lower scoring affair where Fitz is not able to repeat his previous numbers.

Rich Gannon comes to mind............

I said last year beforethe season. It looked like Fitz would be the next Gannon the way he was playing with the Texans in 2014... Some QB's if they stick around long enough, stay healthy and get the opportunity the light seems to go on... Like Josh McCown... Though he seems to have some bad luck with health and Coaching... But he was awful for a long time... Now he's viewed as a capable starter, if he can only stay healthy

I don't think it was ever about the light coming on, he showed this talent in Buffalo. I personally have always thought when they paid him, he got too big for his britches, goofed off and thought it was easy,he had arrived. He was wrong, and learned his lesson at some point and turned into this locker room freak of a mentor we see today. Nobody leads by example better than him according to his teammates.

I think in between being humbled, and learning his lesson,he was set adrift on terrible teams and cast as the in case of emergency cheap backup. He really owes his success and access to this offense,to Mac who saw him in Houston and believed in him. That also makes me give mac a lot of leeway worth his decisions, mac has proven to have an amazing eye for talent.

yep.. so does jim plunkett & to a lesser extent, testaverde..

bottom line, it's not unprecedented & i believe we are witnessing it again with fitzpatrick..

Yes! I see Fitz as the reincarnation of Plunkett as well! Let's hope he brings us 2 Lombardis just like "old man" Plunkett did for the Raiders! The fact that the Pats blew their #1 overall pick on Plunkett makes the analogy particularly sweet!

Boy, I sure hope so.. I want so badly to go and brag to every Patsy fan at the shipyard about how great Fitz is. Really, I can't do that right now because they have Brady. Soon enough Brady will be gone and I hope Fitz outlasts him, although given Fitz playing style, probably won't last as long.

For me this is a fragile thing the Jets have going on. The last time I recall the Jets having this kind of talent on offense was 2009 and 2010. Just as quickly, in 2011, it was all gone. In other words, the Jets have never been able to MAINTAIN a good level of talent on the team, at least not since the late 90's.

Fitz NEEDS talent around him. If he no longer has that talent, my belief is that he will fail. The front office cannot be as dumb as they were after the conclusion of the 2010 season, or else this offense that currently looks pretty good and continues to grow, will fall on it's face.

These are all a bunch of unique parts that really work well together. I just hope and pray that the front office does not run into a whole bunch of putrid drafting years that ultimate left the team virtually devoid of any offensive talent.

Now, you guys may think I am going overboard, but that very thing happened during the 2011 offseason and I just hope Mac is much more responsible than that.....

I do not believe any part of this post. Fitz has never thought he was bigger than the team. I have it on good authority from people that actually know him and interact with him regularly that he is truly a very down-to-earth, very likeable guy. A guy that you could easily see being your friend and someone you could truly trust.

Your post makes it sound like he got too arrogant for his own good and that is one thing I do not believe Fitz has ever been. Confident in his abilities? Yes. To the point where he thought he was bigger than the team? NO WAY.........

I'm not talking about him being a dick, I was talking about his on field abilities. I may not have been clear on that.
I meant he thought he was better than he was,as in he doesn't need to do the small things anymore, he thought his accuracy was a given, along those lines. Of course I'm not privy to locker room details. I'm saying he may have dealt that he had matured into a top qb, then he starts chucking ints and making bad decisions, and was on his way out of town.

I think he learned what he needed to learn, and is now very honest with himself and his abilities. He has played very well within himself since Houston.
