Is it really "stress" if Petty realizes he's only going in because there's no other option?
If Fitz gets hurt week 3 and Petty has to play 1+ games, I don't think it would hurt his psyche. Of course he'd want to do his best, but if things didn't go as well as planned it would practically be expected, and he could learn from the experience once back on the sidelines.
If Geno is going to miss 2 months, then it's a different story. But right now I agree that I'd rather roll the dice with Fitz/Petty until the bye (unless they see long-term potential with either of the other two) . . .
I'm not really disagreeing with you, but it really doesn't matter how we view it. It's how Bowles, and probably Gailey view it.
Bowles has pretty clearly stated Petty will not be the #2 on opening day. He seems to have gone to great lengths to ensure that he won't be.
I personally don't have a problem with Petty being #2 short term to save a valuable roster spot. It appears that Bowles has a problem with it..
