Fitzpatrick Thread -- Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jets agree to 1-year, $12M deal

Fitzy had a career year last year and ideal weather conditions for the most part, other than the last game where he stunk. I'd like to bring him back, but I wouldn't break the bank. IMO this offer is more than fair and as high as I would go. If he can get more elsewhere, I wish him luck. Then we draft another QB and make the transition to Petty.

It was a career year, but it came one season after he had put up similar numbers for 3/4 of the season before getting hurt. It is not like his 2015 was some sort of outrageous anomaly. It was more a progression on what he has already done, both in 2014 and in past seasons under Gailey.

Browns and Rams don't seem to have interest in Fitz..... It's all on Elway and Den.....

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...making-significant-investment-in-fitzpatrick/

So let's look at this situation...

- Fitz and Osweiler have the same agent. (guarantee Elway isn't happy with him)
- Elway didn't want to pay a younger Osweiler the kid he drafted to replace Manning 17-18 Mill
- Reports are the offer was only for 15-15.5 MIll per year for Osweiler
- Fitz wants the market value he sees Osweiler and Bradford getting
- Jets Offered Fitz reportedly 7 Mill

Don't think there is a chance in hell Den offers Fitz, if they even have interest in him, more than 12 Mill a year.

Do we match? Should we match?

If all it takes is $12 million per on a 2-3 year contract, I think it's a no-brainer to match and bring him back.

Devil's advocate:

The Jets are the only team that wants Fitz, and stand firm on their reported offer (3/$21m). Does Fitzpatrick take it, or retire? (He's certainly made enough $$ in his career).

If the latter, do you agree to let him ride off into the sunset? If not, how high do we go to placate him? I'm on the "like the guy but don't think he's the answer" side of the fence, so I don't want to see too much money "wasted" at the position, but I know many here feel otherwise.

Is $12M/yr a "no-brainer"? If so, why are we stubbornly set on almost half that?

I get the whole "don't negotiate against yourself" mantra, but Fitz might still have cards to play regardless . . .

Ryan Fitzpatrick - QB - Free Agent

The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports the Browns and Rams aren't interested in free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick.

With Cleveland and Los Angeles not willing to make a substantial investment in Fitzpatrick, it appears the Jets are bidding against themselves. That would seem to be why the two sides are at a "stare-down" in negotiations. Fitzpatrick wants more and is trying to find a team willing to give him more, but the Jets have no reason to up their offer until some other club gets involved. The Broncos could enter the mix, but they seem focused on Colin Kaepernick.

Best news i've heard. I think they are out of the Fitz market. They still want Colin

i don't know 54, from little interest to none??

wouldn't denver have swooped in already & grabbed fitzpatrick on the cheap?? especially now that it looks like SF is going to play hardball..

9 News in Denver announced that Broncos have acquired Mark Sanchez. With a good defense and running game, he can do a halfway decent job.

Yes for one year guaranteed only. We need Fitz for one more year until backups develop.
Doing one year is how we got into this in the first place. You always have to add a second year, make it friendly so you can walk away.

RGIII is visiting the Jets, source said (as @AdamSchefter reported). Would likely be (they hope) behind Ryan Fitzpatrick

I don't know if some of you are stuck in a time warp but this is a horrible move. I HATE Geno and I would take him over RG3. This guys is broken mentally and physically. This is a bad move

I'm beginning to think that the Jets might be moving on from Fitz. If reports are true, he's looking for 15-18 million per year, and the Jets are only offering about half of that. I don't know how a compromise can be made with those numbers. I know this could all be posturing on both sides, but inviting RG3 in for a visit is an interesting move by Maccagnan.

My preference (in order):

1. Re-sign Fitz.
2. Trade a 2nd or 3rd for Kaepernick.
3. Sign RG3 on a "prove it" deal, and give Petty and Geno a chance to beat him out.

Mac's playing Hardball and RG III is not done physically....He needs to change his style of play or he will always be Mike Vick... good for 11-12 gamesa year only.... Mentally yes he needs to be fixed, the skins ruined him, and I think Gailey will get him and his confidence back on track.... His career QBR is 90.6 and his career compl% is 63.9

He is an upgrade over Geno and if he stays healthy quite possibly Fitz as well.
