Fitzpatrick Thread -- Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jets agree to 1-year, $12M deal

I think Fitz has turned it around as well but I also think there is a lot of synergy between him, Marshall and Decker. I think the Jets will get this done and Fitz will cave and sign for $10 Million ish ( I feel so bad for him).... With that said if he gets off to a bad start he will see a 180 alright..... The 180 the NY media and fans love to do on our own. And it will be ugly.

You got that right. I can already see it now. Fitz gets 10 million a year, comes out and throws 20 INT's and the Jets go 6-10. The fans and media would be merciless.

Thinking about timing with Fitz and how the upcoming draft could drive action.

Do the Jets want resolution with Fitz before the draft? Or, at this point are the jets happy to see what falls their way in the draft?

I would have thought that the Jets would have wanted to sign Fitz whether or not a QB fell their way.....but at some price that obviously isnt so.

Does Fitz want to sign before the draft? The draft will no doubt change his potential market - some teams will get QBs they like, some will still be looking. Is he better off signing before or waiting for after?

For both Firtz and for the Jets, a deal before the draft gives them more CONTROL - the draft rolls the dice.....

what do you guys think?

The problem is no one wants Fitz at his price before, during or after the draft..... Hell I am not sure people want to pay him what the Jets will..... He fits our system so 10-11 mill is a dea for us. Any other team might see as 10-11 mill as to much of a gamble for a guy that maybe a system QB

Good post. The bright side in all of this is that we HAVE a system. Can't remember the last time we had a decent offense.

Watching NFL live on ESPN, Jaworski stated he watched every throw Fitzpatrick made. He said statistically, he threw 15 interceptions but it should have been in the 30 area for intos.

IMHO, this is a none-issue. Think about it, Fitz hangs out with his 2015 Jets teammates. His star receivers speak highly of him. The locker room respects the hell out of him. The GM adores the guy. He's the perfect QB to bridge the gap for a young gun like Bryce Petty to learn from, knowing the system inside out.

I'am more than sure that there is a deal in place for both parties. Mac just doesn't have the cap space at this moment, but it will change in two weeks once Breno's replacement is selected, aka Aaron Decker. Don't get suckered in with the whole Paxton Lynch none sense at 20. We need an upgrade at right OT. (the only way i see the Jets even thinking about Lynch is if Mo gets traded to Tennessee at 15).

All in all, 2015 was a special year that ended sadly. Though, if there are incentives within Fitz's deal to reach the playoffs, there will be extra motivation for him for that feat.
Don't worry fellas, all the pieces for the 2016 campign will begin to fall in place after next weekend.

Also, there is absolutley no fear within Fitz when he plays New England. NONE. We all know we should have swept them last year. The GM knows with this QB, we will top the AFC east this year. Just keep that in mind.

Side note: I find it hysterical how some fans try everything possible to diminsih what this guy did last year.

I don't see Fitz panicking, why not? He's a jet, he's just being respectful of mo. By him behaving this way he's not making enemies. He's not retiring, otherwise he would have used that as a bargaining chip. We would have heard the, if I don't get what I'm worth I'm retiring rumors.

Whatever Denver offers him, the jets will pay $1 more. Denver is unlikely to have offered more than $5 million, and they don't consider Fitz at $10+mil to be that much better than Sanchez.
No one else is interested.

Fitz and the jets are peanut butter and jelly this year.

No one cares what Jaworski says.

Some jump balls could have been ints is just double talk for people who are biased. Some patriot super bowls were just dumb luck miracle plays, they still count as 4 super bowls. 6 including the Giants. That's 6 super bowls that if not for the leg of a kicker at the end, or miracle catches, that would have only been 1 super bowl.

Maybe Fitz and Marshall/decker planned on jump balls because it plays to their strength, the same reason Gailey only plays tall wrs.

Not all are selling Fitz short but I do see the league catching up to him a little in the second year here. The good news is with our new RB things will change as they must!!!! So this is a good step for the Jets.

As far as the Jets & fitz I would like to see the right young guy take over in the next year or two. & if Tb wants Geno this year I would like to see him this year as I trust TB that much. But I am leaning more towards the future.

Nice! Totally agree.

Also, no offense McJet, but Jaworski's the same guy who loved Kellen Clemens as a starting caliber QB.

OH GEEZ I remembered that.... I knew nothing about Clemens at the time and after Jaws raved about how the Jets got the best QB in the draft, and even had a whole 5 minute segement on what made Clemens so great, I was ecstatic. Once Clemens fizzled I knew Jaws opinion on anything was crap, and time has proven that sentiment right a million times.

Signing Fitz brings back a piece of last year's offense we know works. No matter what we pay him, we won't be overpaying the qb position. And his signing gives us flexibility at the position. Draft a guy, play Fitz, play geno, play petty, whatever. Fitz is a good alternative in this system if no one else is good enough to beat him out. If he's here in 3 years it means he's played some damn good ball. If he fails, it's a1 or 2 year deal on a rebuilding team, big deal.

I don't think it's a matter of the league catching up to him, he's been here almost a decade, there was 4 years of film on him in Gaileys system.

This is the best spot for him. He gets all due credit, but it is a fact that he wouldn't be putting up these gaudy numbers in Seattle or Washington

No offense taken, I just wrote what Jaworski stated on his show. Didn't say i agreed or disagreed with it.
On a different side note: i know this fan hasn't stated anything, of his own opinion, to diminish what Fitzpatrick did last year.
