Reason being, for the first time in a long time I genuinely believe the Jets can unseat the Patriots as AFC East Champs.

I know the Pats just won another SB, but Brady is 42 this year, 112 in dog years, the Pats lost some key players in free agency, and I just have a feeling they are ripe to be picked, but only if the second reason for my optimism holds true as well. Sam takes a big leap in year two under Gase, so does Herndon, Bell is still one of the best dual threat RB's in the league as a runner and a receiver, Crowder becomes our Julian Edelman, and lastly Harrison is better than people think while Osemele is still a Pro Bowl caliber OG.

As for the defense, Jamal Adams pleaded for more DAWGS and we went out and got him Quinnen Williams, Jachai Polite and CJ Mosley. Mosley is a perennial all-pro in his prime and basically a more talented version of Bart Scott. Quinnen Williams is one of the most dominant college DL's I have ever seen. Too me he's a carbon copy of Jerome Brown, and all you have to know about JB is that when the Eagles drafted him, Parcells told Phil Simms; "Son, our lives are about to change." Simms responded; "Is he (JB) really that good?", to which Parcells replied; "YES" ... and if we get a devoted Polite, the guy who was a consensus 1st RD Pick after the college season, then we finally found a real impact player off the edge.

YES, I do believe the Patriots are ripe in 2019 and if Sam is what we think he is, this is the year we can take them down.

You haven't heard? ESPN says the Patriots are the most improved team after the draft.

Honestly, the Patriots could draft a bag of rocks and ESPN would rave about how great a choice it was.

I certainly hope so, and I am really looking forward the season as well. A problem as I see it is that a lot of very important parts are new to the team, not the least of which is the coaching staff. Darnold is the key as well as GWilliams' ability to get this defense playing at a very high level.

Kinda off the tracks a bit, but I'd also like to see us shut up people like Charlie Weiss. I used to look forward to my morning commutes listening to Sirius NFL channel, but with Weiss constantly sucking at the tit of 'Billy' Belicheck and 'Tommy' Brady it has become nauseating and an instant turn of the channel. I understand it, he rode their coat tails to two college head coaching gigs and another OC job with Chiefs all of which he sucked at. I suppose they made him a lot of money, hence the loyalty but it is so unprofessional i hope he gets his fat ass canned.

I don't know how to feel about this! Of course I want to get excited and have that optimism but that always seems to fall apart with this team. The only year of recent, I can say they lived up to the billing was the 1997-98 year and AFC Championship game. Yes they lost to the Broncos that year but the Jets were a beast. Had the Broncos by the balls at half-time and let it slip away in the second half. I had all out confidence in Vinny, Martin, Keyshawn, Crebet and that defense. The next year the Jets were the favorites and I believed it hold-heartingly and it all fell apart with the Vinny injury. The 06 and 07 years I didn't have that same confidence. Sanchez just didn't make you, or ME rather feel that he and the Jets had this covered.

I don't feel as confident with this years team as I did with that team in 97. I will next year if they keep building the right way. I might even feel this way somewhere along the line this year, if Sam is showing he's taken that next step and everything else with the team has fallen into place. Gase seems to be the kind of HC that can bring this all together but can he? I have no confidence in our secondary (cornerbacks really) and the safeties and the rest of the D will have to do ALOT to cover up for those guys. I do have confidence in the offense but not as mush, JUST YET as I did in the 97 team. I need to see about 6-8 games and if they, especially Sam shows me then I'm with you. I do believe the Jets will be a much better team then 4-12.

How much better, I don't want to predict anything and ruin it for myself but I will say that the Patriots can be taken down a peg or two. Lets say around that 10-11 wins area. That could be the small opening to take the division or at least match their record. If not this year then eventually I definitely can see Darnold giving me that feeling that he has this in the bag, like Vinny once did. The team is slowly shaping up to giving me that feeling also. Just a few more moves or 6-8 games of tuff minded, disciplined and excellent play (win or lose) and I'll be right with you on this. Jets need to watch out for the Bills as well. They are building something special also but I don't think their QB is anywhere on the level that Darnold is.

I hope the Bills use Long at Center as he is one of those special pieces which they added during the off season. With him under center Webb could beat them.

Sadly, Belichick would turn the bag of rocks into a pro bowl bag of rocks until the bag of rocks wanted to be paid what they deserved at which time the bag of rocks would be traded to the worst team and immediately suck

I'm genuinely excited also. The moment we selected Darnold I became excited. The two things that were dragging me down was Bowles and Mac. We have definitely improved with Gase over Bates or any of the other 3 OC's we've had in last 4 years. Williams is a huge step up from Bowles/Rodgers. Bell if healthy and motivated will be huge for Darnold. Loved the Crowder signing. Gase will love finding ways to use him. Osemele is a huge upgrade if healthy in a similar way as Faneca was. Don't sleep on Ty Montgomery with his versatility. Gonna be an exciting offense for first time in decades. Williams taking over the defense with Mosley, Q and Adams as the core should help this defense with his intensity as a coach. The biggest reason to be excited is Mac was fired. We have the opportunity to get a pretty good GM candidate. I still think this is an 8-8 team, but we have potential for 10-6 if things bounce our way. I think Gase will turn out to be the coach everyone thought he would be in Miami.

Believe me there will be some residual things to complain about, but I'm putting full faith into this heavily "upgraded" coaching staff. Hopefully we land a real GM that can fix all the holes left by Mac.

I think all of the candidates they interviewed for the GM spot are very, very solid candidates. I would be happy with any of them to be honest - all come from winning franchises that know how to build a roster.

Yeah, I'm feeling it, a little worried about the OL and DB's, but I like our depth just about everywhere(except maybe WR).

WR doesn't worry me anywhere near as much as the cornerbacks do. Enunwa, Anderson and Crowder can definitely makes some noise. As long as all three can stay healthly and Enunwa seems to have an issue with that. Diamond in the ruff might be Burnett. If he can step up and be that fourth WR then we will be straight. It would have been great to have signed or drafted a WR that would contribute but that didn't happen. So Burnett will have to be that guy. I don't think anyone else on the roster that can possibly be that dependable fourth WR other than Burnett. Our TEs and RBs can help in that catching aspect as well. Now cornerback is where we are absolutely horrific. T. Johnson hasn't lived up to the billing or the money they paid him and who else do we have, NO ONE! No one worth mentioning anyway. They will have to depend on the young guys to step up. So let's all prey that happens. Oline I think we are ok there also.

Definitely not worried about our WR's. Q, Herndon and RA have been here and have some chemistry with Darnold. Crowder was a great signing. Bell is basically a WR and with Montgomery we have 6 actual weapons. OL is a concern, but 4 of 5 have played together and they added a real All Pro. Our CB's are fine if we get pressure and if Tru Johnson pulls his head out of his ass.

Three things can make our CBs better - 1. They play better (obvious), 2. Scheme - have a scheme that accentuates what they do well, and 3. Get a consistent pass rush so they don't have to cover as long in one on ones. It's really about improving the entire pass defense, not just the CBs. The OL and CBs are likely the least consistent groups on the roster, but that doesn't mean we can't have a top 10 or top 5 defense. There is that kind of talent there if they can pull it together and generate a consistent pass rush.

Trumaine has been a rock solid #1 CB in this league for a long time and IMO he's getting a bum rap from Jets fans because he was essentially injured for the first half of the season and it's hard to be at your best when you miss that much time as a Corner. Trumaine Johnson is my candidate for comeback player of the year if he stays healthy. As for the opposite CB and NB, We have a bunch of talented (and fast) young players like Parry Nickerson, Darryl Roberts, Brian Poole and Derrick Jones, but the kid who intrigues me the most is Bless Austin if and when he gets healthy, because that kid had the size and skill to be a high pick if he didn't get hurt. Also if Marcus Maye finally stays healthy we can actually have a terrific S combo with Adams and Maye.

Lastly, I'm a big believer that your DB's in todays NFL are only as good as your pass rush, and I see a vastly improved pass rush with Quinnen Williams, Jachai Polite and CJ Mosley who is exceptional at shooting the gaps and rushing the QB up the middle. Lastly, Gregg Williams is an ultra-aggressive DC who believes you can't win without hitting the QB.

So for me it really all works in unison. The pass rush makes the corners better and the DC is from the Buddy Ryan school of "Kill the QB"

Poole is better than Skrine. I'm assuming Tru plays way better under Williams like he did with the Rams.
