And I'm not only saying this because our kickers stink. Any kicker, even the best of them, is capable of shanking one off a botched snap or whatever.

IMO it's a crime to lose a game on such a non football play in any real sense. Maybe it had it's place in 1920, but now it's antiquated and needs to go.

A TD should be an automatic 7.

Then you should have the option to stick with the 7 or run a play and go for 8, but if you fail then a point is subtracted and you wind up with 6.

Since they moved it back, kickers have been predictably missing more. Yeah, I think I’m with you. I like the 6/7/8 proposal, too. Makes the game far more interesting than watching your scrub kicker miss multiple PAT’s in a game. I’m all for reducing the impact of a kicker screwing your team.

Kickoffs should’ve been eliminated years ago. Pointless high speed head-on collisions. Let every team start at their own 20. Done.

Punt returns are somewhat unavoidable. But the rate at which guys fair catch the ball reduces the injuries.

My vote is to keep it the way it is. How is the point after a "non football" play?? Special team plays are as football as any other plays performed on the field. Sure, PAT's are boring, but I like the strategy of having the option of going for 2 when needed.

I agree. I imagine the PAT was included in the design of the game to introduce something that would allow a tie to be avoided in a game between 2 teams that are otherwise evenly matched and who wind up exchanging touchdowns. And keep in mind a missed extra point does not only happen due to a shanked kick. There is also the blocked kick. And in today's rules, the blocking team can return the ball. And score.
