Former NFL player, assistant Gary Brown dies at age 52

Former New York Giants running back and Dallas Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown died Sunday at age 52.

Brown had coached at Wisconsin last season.

A former Houston Oilers draft pick from Penn State who played for the Chargers and New York Giants, Brown rushed for 4,931 career yards and 24 touchdowns.

"We mourn the passing of Gary Brown, a great man who played for Big Blue for two years - including a 1,000-yard season in 1998. Once a Giant, Always a Giant," the Giants said in a statement.

Brown coached the Cleveland Browns and Cowboys' running backs.

Gary Brown, who spent seven seasons as the Dallas Cowboys' running backs coach, died Sunday after being treated for cancer. He was 52. "Gary Brown had a big heart partnered with a big smile and a big personality. His energy and spirit were infectious," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement.
