I've been meaning to send this out but I have held off for whatever reason. There has been some atrocious forum etiquette the last few days that has made me real unhappy and I have lost a really really good mod. Honestly, posting here should be very simple. We treat everyone with respect. Disagreements will happen, it's a message board but people should not resort to name calling, cursing or posts that are created to push people's buttons. The rules below are very simple. Order needs to be maintained or all hell will break loose here and that is not what this message board should be about.

We all want the same thing. A nice place that we can escape to to discuss the Jets so lets just keep it that way. Disagreements from previous threads should not carry over into other threads.

Here are the rules:

1. Under no circumstances will personal attacks or name calling be tolerated. Please debate in a respectful manner. These situations will be taken care of appropriately by the moderators at their own discretion. Attack the post, not the poster. We ask that you also keep cursing at a minimum. Cursing should be used for emphasis on something but not towards anyone!

2. Thread creation – Please scan the board before posting for anything that is being discussed elsewhere. Duplicate discussion pushes other threads onto the second page which kills discussion. New threads should be created when introducing new threads or dialogue. A lot of the times a new thread is warranted but not always.

3. Keep the existing threads on topic. No reason why a Sheldon thread should turn into a Geno thread.

If you think this thread is addressing you then, like the old saying goes: "if the shoe fits, wear it". I can't manage this site on my own and do need all the help I can get. I need a new mod now, you bastards! Honestly a big loss for all of us. I know the culture of this thread cannot make everyone happy but we all want the same thing, a JETS board with some class.

Ok guys - wanted to bring this up for discussion. When i originally posted this, i was pissed and didn't think it through.

I think we should all visit the rules of this board and make this a collaborative effort.

There's too much drama in here and too much antagonizing in our posts. We are all jets fans that want this team to win.

I want this board to be about intelligent discussion without the bs. BS will come up but now that this board will have rules in place, it will be easier for Sack and I to manage this board.

So what do you think about our initial draft of rules? Your thoughts are welcomed.

I get the need to avoid turning Sheldon-is-an-idiot threads into Geno-is-an-idiot threads.

However, I see no rule against posting booby pics on any thread. Can I assume that means it's okay?

The rules are more than fair. I don't tell people what to say, but I have been using message boards for a long time, and they're generally better when they're moderated.

It shouldn't be difficult to be respectful. There is nothing wrong with saying "I disagree with you," or "I think you're wrong." There's just no reason to imply (or state outright) that the other person is stupid, even if you believe that the person to whom you are speaking IS, in fact, stupid! Just say "I don't agree, because..." and no one should have any problems. And if you're not sure if what you said was disrespectful or not, then, "when in doubt, leave it out."

I concur with both those guys however as anyone that has ever done it being a Mod is a thankless job not counting the enemies you can make while doing it.. It can turn a good sane poster into a raging psychopath which is why I would support you..LOL

The rules are good, but perhaps don't give enough guidance. Not too long ago I posted something about the deflategate business that got merged into another thread, which upset me a bit. So, how do you figure out whether a related topic to an existing thread has enough merit on its own to warrant a new thread?

I echo this. If this board is to be for all of us, we all should contribute in how it is going to be run.

This will naturally lead to conflict. The old scout guys had one way of going about it, the old JI guys another. We can work together to take the best of both, and make a board that is better than either was.

Also we are all just giving our opinions yet some love stating those opinions as facts which they are not. Give your opinions. Dis-agree with others just please do it civilly. .

AS far as multiple threads go I cant even tell tou how many tines I see a poster say I posted this in another thread but I put it here also. A good rule for me is if I have to read the same exact thing twice or more some of the threads were unnecessary

I'm on several boards and your one of the sanest posters I've seen.. My pet peeve is guys that start threads and never check to see if they are other one's already there with the same content..
