Dammit, I live in VA and didn't pay that ridiculous amount of money on DirectTV to have the extra sports channels including SNY. Guess I'm regretting that now.

No worries. Go on NFL.com and sign up for the game pass. It is free for one week and you can watch the this game for free.

Ham i know your really passionate and been thru alot with the jets but i think you are omitting petty. IMO he has looked better than anyone we have had since chaddy was in pre-season after being drafted.
I'm with you, admin, I'm a Petty supporter and was in favor of the Jets drafting him. If you recall, he's the QB I was lobbying for in the draft if we didn't get Mariota in RD 1. I don't think Petty did anything to embarrass himself on Thursday and nothing has changed my mind about his potential, but its clear that he has a long way to go before he's a viable option to start and succeed (anyone can start, the trick is to start and win), but thats okay because I knew that too, I said from the beginning that his rookie season will basically have to be a redshirt year because of the system at Baylor and steep learning curve in the NFL, so I don't expect him to go out there and throw four TD Passes in his first game. Right now its encouraging that he didn't look overwhelmed and didn't throw any picks. Hopefully as the preseason progresses he gets a little more comfortable and gets his team into the end-zone a few times.

When I said we didn't have a QB, I was referring specifically to this year, I'm not a believer in Fitzpatrick.

1st preseason game with a bunch of new players and a completely new coaching staff. I can't believe we didn't win 42-0. Any intelligent fan knows it takes time.

Summary

The starting QB played one series, moved the chains and probably would have ended with a TD had not the TE who should have been cut long ago dropsied a well thrown deep pass. Still led to a FG

The starting D was Disappointing for sure but still only played one series too

After the first seies, our future deli workers and their future deli workers played an unwatchable 54 minutea of scrimmage. I stopped watching after 20 or so, my best decision of the evening

Summary

Positive

Ryan Fitzpatrick looked good in his one series. He managed the offense, moved the chains and completed a nice pass to open Marshall, a short one to Decker and was done in by the Cumbersome dropsy. He also protected the ball, showed good arm strength and accuracy and no ill effects from the leg injury, threw it to the players in white uniforms and didn't run backwards out of FG position, remembered the plays, progressions, knew what time zone he was in, looked like an NFL QB, didn't get into any cussing matches with fans or fights with teammates or post selfies on Instagram
.

All upgrades over the disaster of the past two seasons and reason for hope in 2015

From what I've read, Petty showed some good things in the second half, admittedly not against NFL players

There is hope we may finally have an NFL punter for the first time since Westhoff stupidly dumped Malone and kept Shanks Quiggles.

Only three more awful "games" of Dumbass Buttle's insightful game commentary

Negative

The first team D got run over on their one series vs the Lions ones. If it was a boxing match, the referee would gave stopped it. Needs plenty of work

Three more awful "games" with Buttle doing commentary

As said before, Petty did not embarrass himself and started like a deer in the headlights and ended like a raw rookie with a game under his belt. He started to settle in and was OK. The rest is all nonsense.
Just keep in mind that both QB's had to move up and play with squads they haven't had reps with yet.

So I'm watching the replay and so far Petty doesn't look bad at all. Its only the second quarter with 6:32 left. Receivers dropping passes that Petty is putting right in their hands.

I agree with ham, lethargic is accurate. I don't care about pre season in any way, because it is a glorified walkthrough. You don't want the league to have tape on you and you don't want to get hurt.

But outside of the first offensive series and Mauldin, the guys looked lethargic and that scares me. These guys should feel pumped to be back on the field.

I never have, and still don't, buy this "it's only preseason..." crap. I understand that these games do not mean anything. I understand that their purpose is to evaluate new talent and get players reps under fire. But anytime an athlete takes the field in a game, there is a built in mechanism that drives them to be better than the guy across the trench. A player may do only as much as he needs to to win the guy across from him, but he almost HAS to do at least that much. Its called drive and you either have it or you dont.

This was the least competitive game played across the NFL tonight. That's a fact. And that was a fact throughout the WHOLE game, not just at isolated times. We got our ass handed to us from the starters to the practice squad players.

Tackling was abhorrent (that sound familiar to anyone?) Effort was, with few exceptions, poor (again, sound familiar to anyone?). D started slowly - again. Oline did look noticeably improved, and I thought Ivory's vision looked much better than it has in the past. I thought Marcus Williams was a bright spot, Mauldin too, but they were maybe the only ones. Fitz looked ok considering......and I thought Brice Petty looked pretty decent for his first big boy outing.....once the butterflies settled down. But neither of these guys is likely to lead us to the promised land.

Overall, I saw precious little to get excited about......but it IS early.

I can't believe you or anyone watched ALL these hideous scrimmages pretending to be "games" in order to make such an analysis.

I made it midway through the second quarter of one of them and that was FAR too much crap for me

Good post.

Something to keep in perspective is the kid didn't complete single pass for more than 8 yards. It was a very guarded, conservative play call. Even orlovsky was allowed to open up and hit Salas for that 20 yard TD catch in the corner of the end zone, but even with Petty not falling on his face, it was an ultra conservative game plan he was asked to execute. Hopefully they can begin opening up the playbook for him a little as the preseason progresses.
