1. Rex has proven in 2013 and 2014 to be terrific in week 17.

WHEN THE GAME IS MEANINGLESS TO HIS OPPONENT

Sunday is NOT meaningless to his opponent

2. The Jets have a better QB, better RBs, better WRs, a better OL and a better defense and a far better coaching staff than the Bills. Last year every one of the facets of the game was reversed 180 degrees. Fortunately Rex has screwed up the entire winning nucleus Marrone left him and Mac and Bowles have vastly improved every aspect of the Jets

All of this is true.

I'm approaching this game the same as I have since the Texans loss. If we lose to the Bills we don't have any business making the playoffs. We are the better team and we may or may not win, but we should.

I'm just worried that a let down game could happen since we blew our old against the Pats. Hopefully our team has enough of a veteran presence that they won't let that happen

E, not gonna happen. Pace siad it best today... they are locked in and will be ready.

Beating Buffalo next week will not be easy, Rex wants to win that game in the worst way, and the last thing he wants is the Jets, the team that just fired him, clinching a playoff berth on his home field.

So getting that win will not be easy, but if we can get it, IMO this team might have a Super Bowl run in them.

Its time to face some facts about this team, Jets fans, and some facts about the opposition too.

First on the Jets. This Jets team is no fluke. We have one of the best defenses in football, if not the best, and our offense is pretty damn good too.

They have a nice RBBC stable with Ivory and Powell leading the way and Ridley showing glimpses of his old self, before he injured his knee. He's not all the way back, but enough to be a nice third RB in the rotation. Ivory is a bruiser and Powell is showing more burst than he ever has in his career prior to this year.

As for the WR's, we have two BIG WR's who present a matchup nightmare, three when Enunwa catches the ball (admittedly an adventure), but these guys are a physical mismatch. Marshall is an ELITE #1, Decker is an ELITE #2, and Enunwa is probably bigger and faster than both of them, and a terrific downfield blocker too.

Last but not least, I GET IT, I was not a Fitzpatrick believer either, truth be told, I was one of his harshest critics in the off-season, I thought starting Fitzpatrick was a recipe to play .500 ball at best, AT BEST, so I totally get why its still hard for some people to imagine Ryan Fitzpatrick winning the Super Bowl, after all, we're talking about a career journeyman who is on his fifth of sixth team and its hard for such a player to break the perception that he is the living, breathing definition of JAG (Just Another Guy), but at some point you have to acknowledge that the SOB is having a career year with the Jets, not unlike Vinny in 98, another veteran nomad who was no longer viewed as a guy you could win a championship with, most people viewed him as a mistake prone bust, another Jeff George, million dollar arm and a ten cent head, then he came to the Jets and BY FAR had the best year of his career, a legit MVP candidate, and I would argue Ryan Fitzpatrick has done much the same. You don't have a WR duo breaking all sorts of franchise records if you don't have a QB who is getting them the ball and giving them multiple opportunities week after week to make plays. So while the Fitzpatrick from the past couldn't win you a SB, that doesn't mean THIS VERSION can't. IMO he sure as heck can.

Lastly, the opposition, particularly in the AFC, has never been more beatable. We just beat the best team in the AFC, and while it may have taken OT to do so, nobody who watched that game and knows anything at all about football can tell me the Jets didn't out-play the Patriots for most of that game. The Jets should have won that game by at least two touchdowns, if the score was going to reflect the degree to which we out-played NE, and I would argue we out-played them the first time we played them too, only we let that one slip away. So this was no fluke. We've played NE about 125 minutes this year, and IMO we've out-played them in close to 100 of those minutes, and thats the consensus "team to beat" in the AFC.

Who else scares you?

Who else in the AFC can't we beat if we can beat Buffalo next week and get into the dance?

Cincinnati with AJ McCarron at QB?

Denver with Brock Osweiller?

KC with Alex Smith?

Houston with Brian Hoyer?

Which one of these teams are the Jets incapable of beating, including New England?

So yeah, crazy as it sounds, if this team can get by Buffalo, this team just might have a SB run in them.
You hit the nail on all points here and I couldn't agree more. This offense is shaping up into being a true playoff threat and SB contender. Even with Fitz at QB at it's hard to say or admit that but its true!!! I posted this on another thread a little earlier and I felt it was fitting to use to reply here as well:

Just my evaluation I must admit but the Jets offense and Fitz (mainly) are forming quite nicely because of the addition of new weapons that weren't there at the beginning of the year. If you think of it, Fitz played average to above average the first ten games of the season because all he had were Ivory, Marshall and Decker. D. Smith and Enunwa weren't really apart of the offense, Powell and Ridley were recovering from injuries, Thompkins I don't think was even on the team until week 5-6 and he had to get acclimated to the offense. So Fitz could only depend on Marshall, Decker and Ivory and even though Marshall and Decker were putting up excellent numbers, Fitz stats weren't but so impressive (they were just ok). Now that Powell (mainly) has come on strong in the running but especially the passing game, it has added a great weapon for Fitz.

Over the past 3-4 games Thompkins and Enunwa have come on truly strong. Even Ridley showed some signs of life over the past game or two. Two missing pieces are Smith and Kerley but Kerley still can come strong at any point. With the addition of these weapons, if you look at Fitz total numbers now he is about to set Jets franchise record breaking numbers. This has truly all come alive over the past 5-6 games ever since Powell and the other weapons have shown up. Now the pressure is off Fitz to look only for Marshall and Decker and his completion percentage is up and TDs, ints have dropped also. This also takes the pressure off Marshall and Decker and Ivory now that the running game isn't all on him. If the Jets can beat the Bills this week (AND THEY WILL) and they stay healthy, they will be a deadly team to face in the playoffs.

— Here's a prediction: Rex Ryan is going to win the lead up to this Jets-Bills game in a rout. He is going to give a terrific press conference or three, filled with thinly (or not so thinly) veiled barbs directed at his former employers that will create plenty of headlines and social media noise.

Here's another prediction: Todd Bowles is going to win the actual game itself. And in a rout, too.

Sorry, Rex. You were the ultimate entertainer during your six years as Jets head coach, and you've taken that show to Buffalo. It's been fun to watch at times, to be sure, and your players clearly have decided that this one is more important that the average regular-season contest. "We're not going to the playoffs, so the Super Bowl is next week for us," Bills running back Boobie Dixon said. "I know we're gonna have a lot of guys jacked. We already know what's on the line."

Yes, that should sound familiar for Jets fans: Promise the playoffs, then invent a "Super Bowl" out of a meaningless game. The Bills are in Year 1 of the Ryan Era, but there are signs that he's already wearing thin on the fan base and maybe people within the organization.None of that matters now to the Jets, who will arrive in Orchard Park knowing that: A) with a victory assuring a spot in the playoffs they have far more to play for than their opponents and B) with the steady Bowles on the sidelines they have a coach hardwired for a game like this.Bowles showed his poise in the 26-20 victory over the Patriots that set the Jets up for this moment. He had his Jets ready for their biggest game of the season, and the result was a near mistake-free performance that gave the Jets their fifth straight victory.

Oh, how Ryan would have hogged the spotlight had he been the one celebrating a victory, especially given the epic coaching blunder by rival Bill Belichick that helped deliver that win. Not Bowles. "It was a good win," the first-year head coach said as the opening statement to his postgame press conference. "Three of the last four weeks, we've been fighting and winning these types of games, so it helps out to win one against a quality team at our place."That was it. The Jets weren't perfect in this victory, with their sturdy defense allowing Tom Brady to tie the score with less than two minutes left on a drive that including two fourth-down conversions. But they are a team that is gaining confidence, with a quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick capable of making a few huge throws a game (and avoiding the bad ones), a receiver in Brandon Marshall who is on a mission to confirm his place in the game as an elite player, and a pass rush with the likes of Mo Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson that is relentless at times.

Ryan, meanwhile, has a 7-8 team with a defense that isn't nearly as feared as it was a year ago, and after just one season, some people in Buffalo have already turned on him. When a Buffalo News columnist asked him if he had been given any guarantees that he'd be back next season, Ryan answered, "I know if it was up to you I wouldn't."And that columnist, Bucky Gleason, responded, "You're right."Ryan went on the defensive, even after a victory over Dallas, again assuring everyone that "there's some great times ahead of this football team." But it was hardly the same brash coach whose Bills beat the Jets in East Rutherford on November 13.

The Bills are 2-4 since then and 7-8 overall, but if you're still a believer in the Cult of Rex, you'll buy into the idea that he'll have this dead team ready to exact some revenge for their leader.I don't buy that for a second. Ryan will win the press conference in a rout, but Jets fans are well aware of how little that means. And they'll be celebrating when Todd Bowles leads their team into a playoffs with a victory against an old friend.

To be fair, Rex was "terrific" against some VERY soft Dolphin teams.

I'd like to think we're going to bring more to the table than the Dolphins did, which would (hopefully) make Rex's job A LOT harder.

But I guess we'll find out soon enough . . .

I know that everybody knows this but , it's the same as every other game just with a bunch of Rex and media blabber surrounding it..

Offense
Get points early
O-line must play well and pick up the blitz
have some hot reads and bubble screens to slow them down
Feed the beast ( no one can cover B Marsh on that team )
get Bilaaaal Pooowwwellll in space
punting is ok if needed

Defense
Stop the run
keep the game in front of you (Can't let Sammy catch deep balls)
Spy taylor
Sound taclking
mix up man and zone dont let that QB understand what were doing on 3rd downs
no stupid mistakes and mental errors

Specials teams
No F**ck ups!

P.S. it would be really nice to not even have to be in a pool of my own sweat for 3 solid hours, try to make it easy on us Jet Fans we deserve it.....

That's it GO TO PLAYOFFS!!!!!

The phrase "This is our Super Bowl" plays differently in Buffalo than elsewhere. Saw a great 30:30 about that the other day. Super Bowl isnt a great conversation starter up there....

Hope we dont need a "wide right" to get the W - this game will be a challenge.

I don't buy this belief that Buffalo has nothing to play for, and will therefore come out uninspired. They want to knock us out of playoff contention and will bring everything they've got in their last home game. These guys ain't laying down.

The Jets have momentum though, and are playing much better than back in early November. It'll be a bit of a defensive battle, IMO. But I see the Jets prevailing somewhere in the 23-17 area.

The Bills are also seriously banged up right now. Easley on IR, status uncertain for McCoy with a knee and DT Marcell Dareus had a neck injury that took him out of the game with no feeling in his hand last week. CB Ronald Darby has a groin injury that may keep him out as well.

Ordinarily when your season is over you are NOT risking the health of your players, especially your best players, but I'm sure Rex is so obsessed with knocking us out of the playoffs that he will be putting injured players on the field, unless they tell him they can't go, which players rarely do, especially if the coach is treating this like his Super Bowl

But we'll see, I just know Rex won't shut down his injured players for this game the way coaches ordinarily would in the last game of a losing season. If its at all possible, they're playing.

STEELERS/RAVENS: A Cautionary Tale

At this time last week the Steelers were rolling and coming off an impressive comeback win over Denver at home.

Their offense was lighting teams up and their media bandwagon was filled to capacity. All last week the 'experts' were suggesting the Steelers, with BIG BEN healthy again, could go all the way to the Super Bowl as a Wildcard. You couldn't turn on ESPN or the NFLN without hearing about how dangerous the Steelers are with their unstoppable trio of WR's. I thought I was in a time-warp and back in the 1970's when the Steelers were fielding an All-Pro team and beating people senseless.

AND THEN ....

It was off to play the lowly Ravens, a team with enough players on IR to field another football team, and a lot better than the actual team they were fielding on Sunday, and a team that was starting a FA QB they signed off the street only four days earlier.

There was not a chance in hell that the Steelers were going to torch their ticket to the playoffs in that game, division rival or no division rival, that game was as close to a college style (Alabama vs Rutgers) MISMATCH as gets in the NFL, it was the closest thing you can get to a MISMATCH in the NFL, and after 3+ hours of football the Steelers were on the outside looking in.

Everything they worked for, everything they played for, everything they sweat and bled for, POOF!!!!, up in smoke, and at the hands of a team they should have beaten by three touchdowns (minimum). If they played the Ravens again this week, they would probably hang 40+ Points on them, but in this league there are no mulligans, so now the Steelers are on the outside looking in, and desperately needing help from the Bills.

So how did this happen?

How did the Steelers let his happen with so much on the line?

In a word .... LETDOWN

But how could you have a letdown with your playoff lives on the line, everything you worked and bled for all year?

The short answer, that Denver game took a lot out of them emotionally. They had to play the second half of that game at a fever pitch after falling behind so early. If they were going to comeback and win that game, it was going to take a maniacal effort, and when it was over, they were emotionally spent ... and one week was not enough time to recharge their batteries and get the same type of effort verses a team they were so much better than on paper, starting a QB they just picked up off the street.

OUR SITUATION this week is not exactly the same, but close enough that it scares me to death.

Make no mistake about it, that Patriots game was about as emotionally draining as it gets, verses our hated division rivals, a team that has owned our division for over a decade and has been the source of enormous pain and angst for this franchise.

I am scared to death that we will not be able to bring the same level of intensity to Buffalo that we had for NE, and IMO thats what its gonna take to win this game, otherwise we are walking into an ambush. Say what you will about Rex, for sure he has his short-comings and I'm thrilled with Todd Bowles, no way I'm trading coaches with Buffalo, BUT KNOW THIS, Rex can get his teams up for the games that really matter to him, the problem is he can't get his teams to sustain it, but that doesn't help us on Sunday, for THIS ONE he will have his team ready to play.

I'm not saying we can't beat them.

I'm not saying we can't win regardless of how badly they want to beat us.

All I'm saying is, DON'T KID YOURSELF, we are walking into an ambush verses a team thats A LOT BETTER than the Ravens. Rex does not want this team clinching a playoff berth on his home field at his new teams expense, and he'll make sure all of his players feel likewise by the time we kickoff on Sunday, so unless we bring the same level of intensity to this game that we had for the Patriots, unless we can sustain that emotional high and not suffer a natural emotional letdown, we are gonna get knocked off in Buffalo and Rex is going to rub our noses in it too.

In closing, I know Todd Bowles doesn't like his teams to get too high or too low, he likes to sustain an even keel, but IMO he needs to throw that playbook in the trash this week and do whatever he must do to get this teams attention and get them peaking emotionally for the Bills on Sunday. He must understand the real danger of an emotional letdown coming off that momentous win over the hated Patriots. ITS HUMAN NATURE, ask the Steelers, and Bowles must do something to combat it.

I refuse to worry about this game. This team is playing too well and are together for the first time in many years. I'm not letting the same ole Jets crap sneak into my head until they give me a reason to. The trifecta to close out the season for me will be complete. We beat my hated Cowboys and Pats and now will get revenge on the our old HC that hasn't been good since he was a fat fuck!! And if this team doesn't come out prepared then its their fault. They won't get beat by a better team. They hopefully learned when they were 4-1 that you can't get ahead of yourselves. And don't fool yourself they want to beat Rex to get into the playoffs just as bad as he wants to beat them.
