Gase to evaluate Herndon, Copeland before activating them

Chris Herndon and Brandon Copeland may not be ready to return from their suspensions just yet.

Adam Gase said Monday that he needs to see how both Herndon and Copeland perform at practice before deciding whether to activate them or not. The Jets have roster exemptions on both players because they are coming off of suspension, meaning the Jets don’t necessarily have to activate them right away if they don’t want to.

Herndon was suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. He was allegedly driving while intoxicated in June 2018 and crashed into a 76-year-old-man’s car.

The tight end had a breakout rookie season last year with 39 catches for 502 yards and four touchdowns. It wad the first time the Jets got quality production out of the tight end position in years.

Copeland, meanwhile, was suspended during the preseason after violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. He had the best year of his career last season with 35 combined tackles and five sacks. The Jets could use his presence as a pass rusher.

Gang Green needs all the reinforcements that it can get at 0-4. Herndon would give the Jets another offensive weapon, while Copeland can get to the quarterback, which the Jets haven’t done much this season.

But it will be up to Gase if either plays on Sunday against the Cowboys.

Just saw this online. Herndon is a friggin mush.

"The Jets were hoping to get tight end Chris Herndon back in the lineup this week as his season-opening four-game suspension came to an end after last Sunday’s loss to the Eagles. Herndon hurt his hamstring running routes on his own last week, however, and Gase said he will not practice on Wednesday as a result."

Watched Kittle doing his Bavaro impersonation for the Niners vs the Browns, dragging tacklers for the first down. Seems a long time since we had a TE like that.

actually i don't ever remember us having a TE like that..

shuler & barkum were both legitimately good TEs but neither was a bruiser.. earlier than those guys??

In theory, we had one in Johnny Mitchell. Big (6'3", 250) with deceiver-like speed, the guy seemed like an answer to our prayers. Then reality showed up and the theory was disproved. Mitchell was a total head case and one of the biggest Jet busts ever.

Mitchell was huge. He'd always do that dumb Superman pose after a reception or one of his few TDs. But actually showed up as Ant-Man most games. Such wasted potential. He had the ability to be a Gronk-type TE way back in the 90s.

Herndon tweaking his hammy is just the icing on the cake! Freakn guy is due back this week and now another setback.

Let's see if Darnold and Thomas can get some kind of connection going that can help the team.
