Hypothetically, Jets are 4-0 when Geno comes back. You think Fitzpatrick/Petty/whoever sits? What has Geno done to prove that the job is his?

Exactly.... Fitz is a proven (although unspectacular) starter in this league. Everyone is saying that if we can get respectable QB play this year, with our defense, that should put us in the playoff hunt at least. No saying we make it..... but at least in the hunt. With Fitz, we will get that. With Geno...... I don't think so. Geno was given the nod this season due to him being the incumbent... not because he earned it

I'd say his brief time in the NFL is over. Who'd take a chance on a maniac like that , who hasn't proven to be anything but a situational LB.

Geno has a higher ceiling, but also a much lower floor.

If the team needed a QB to truly lead them to success, the better bet is Geno.

But if the team needs someone to come in and be steady, Fitz is the better option.

I guess 55 is the only one happy since he recently called for ALL of Idzik's picks to be purged and this pretty much purges two more of them

I have been calling for Smith to be replaced for months but, obviously would have preferred Fitzpatrick to win the job on the field, not by default.

But since I root for all the Jets...

not sure where the matt flynn name is coming from, but he basically hasn't yet been able to practice and never passed his physical with the pats, which is why moved on and added lindley with the pre-season about to start.

IK isn't the first guy in a locker room with violence in his past but I can't remember a QB getting his jaw broke by a teammate in the locker room. No one is defending IK and he'll get what he deserves. The HC called them two six graders, and this incident will hurt and follow Geno as well. I don't have anything against Geno but there is something about him, outside of his play on the field, that rubs people the wrong way. I'm embarrassed about it, and don't like that my teams starting QB put himself in a position for this to happen.

There are better alternatives out there for emergency clipboard holder than Flynn. I mean, the guy just lost his job to Ryan Lindley which isn't a really good recommendation IMO.

I think Mikey Mac makes no immediate move and picks up an insurance guy when better choices get cut by other teams

Its true, Geno may have the higher ceiling.... but I think the long term option is Petty anyway. This fiasco will only help him get more reps now....with a transition in a season or too. Much like the Sanchez debacle.... it would be better to groom Petty with Fitz, rather than Petty vs Geno later on (season or two).

Ryan is a good mix of experienced, intelligent, familiar, and not yet too old. He's what we need, someone who won't screw up. He's our Trent dilfer.

I know his first criticism is turnovers, except he's played for terrible offenses and still had numbers much better than any jets qb. If we took a straight swap of his statistical numbers, he would have been the best jets qb since favre.

That's not true. He has a pulled hamstring, has yet to take physical. Belechik cut him because he said "we can't wait forever."

Ryan Fitzpatrick took a top 10 defense to 6-6 this year and has no upside...also had Hopkins, Andre Johnson, and a top 5 rusher in the NFL at RB last year...still only got them to 6-6.

With Geno it was likely 9-7 or 10-6 at best if he realized his potential. Fitzpatrick has never been better than 6-10 over 16 games...Im guessing that is us this year if he plays.


Next year we go QB rd 1, this season is already over. No play-offs and still waiting for someone who can make us a play-off team at QB.

I still would have liked Geno getting the job out of camp, because it would allow us to finally give a full, complete evaluation of him into his third year. If he struggled early, you pull the plug for good. If he develops, you at least have a chance at improvement from him.

All of that is true, but statistically, Geno has never come close to putting up the numbers Fitz put up, both last year and when he was with Gailey. So I don't think it's as much a definite as you suggest it is that Geno would have been better.

Is your motive just to be full of piss and vinegar and be negative about anything? You're right, it truly doesn't matter, because Petty is the 2 now. I would much rather Bryce Petty sitting and working with a guy who has won a few big games, worked with Rodgers (and Wilson) than a Mike Vick (wasn't prepared for games) or Jason Campbell (just flat out sucks)

Fitz had a 6td game last season and Geno had 12 all of last season. When I first read Geno had his jaw broke by teammTe, my first thought was what did Geno do or say to have that happen.
