Most would agree that at the moment we have a small group of active users. Normally that could be a bad thing but we can actually use that to our advantage and strengthen the NYJF online community. This should probably be in our "Introduce Yourself" section but since no one reads that, let's have it here for now.

I put together a set of questions and @JET4LIFE55 has agreed to be the first to answer them. These questions are both Jet related and non-Jet related questions. You may have seen the Jets ones in separate posts but I guess it's good to have them all in one place.

Please feel free to answer them next. Thanks @JET4LIFE55 for being a good sport!

1. When and how did you become a Jets fan?

1977, I was at my Uncle's house and WPIX was on in the bedroom. I didn't like what they were watching on tv, so I stayed in the bedroom and watched my first ever NY Jets preseason game. I never looked back.

2. What is your favorite Jets moment?

My favorite Jets moment is a tie 1. When we drafted Marvin Jones. I watched him in college due to the fact that I was living in Florida at the time. What a player. 2. When Bill Parcells became our head coach

My greatest game memory has to be the Monday Night Miracle at the Meadowlands.

4. Current favorite Jet? All time favorite Jet?

My current favorite Jet is Mo Wilkerson. All time, Marvin Jones

5. What has been your biggest disappointment as a Jets fan?

My biggest disappointment has been a lack of long term stability in front office, coaching staff and QB

6. How do you feel about today's athletes being out spoken regarding current event? (or example, Sheldon speaking about Ferguson and calling the cop a pig)

I believe in the freedom of press and the freedom of speech. Athletes are people too and have their own views and feelings.

1. When and how did you become a Jets fan?

I am not even sure. All my friends growing up and all the neighbors were Giants fans. I think I started becoming a football fan around the 1998 season. The Jets were always in the media and the better team in NY so when I first watched a game, I was hooked.

2. What is your favorite Jets moment?

My favorite Jets moment is in 2002 when the crowd found out that the Pats defeated the Dolphins in overtime (I believe) with a Vinatieri FG. The atmosphere and the electricity of the crowd propelled the Jets to defeat the Packers who I believe were one of the top teams in the NFC. This victory gave us the division title. All three teams, the Jets, Pat and Dolphins had records of 9 and 7. It was Pennington's first season as a starter and I really thought we were going to win it that year. Cinderella story.....until the Raiders. **** the Raiders.

3. Best Jets moment that you have seen live at the stadium?

When Houston came to town (I think in 2010) and Mark Sanchez led a come back with less than two-minutes left in the game. My friend and I were at the game and thought it was over when Houston took the lead. Next thing you know, Sanchez throws a bomb to Braylon Edwards and then a beautifully thrown ball to Holmes in the corner of the end zone. That Holmes play in my opinion is still the best designed play I have seen from the Jets in the last decade or so.

4. Current favorite Jet? All time favorite Jet?

My current favorite Jet is Nick Mangold. All time, L. Coles.

5. What has been your biggest disappointment as a Jets fan?

When we think we are closing the gap with the Pats but then the season comes along and we are right back where we started, if not worse. Also, **** Doug Brien (I know Savage69 will mention how Chad didn't do anything offensively but who cares. We were in position to win! Twice!

6. How do you feel about today's athletes being out spoken regarding current events? (or example, Sheldon speaking about Ferguson and calling the cop a pig)

As long as they are smart with the comments and make sense I am fine with it.

7. When not watching football, what are you doing?

Working and then working on the site!

8. What is your favorite sports movie?

Major League

9. What is your favorite movie regardless of genre?

This one is tough. I can never think of any good ones when I am put on the spot. One that comes to mind right now is The Departed.

10. What is your favorite song?

Journey - Separate Ways

11. Where are you from?

Astoria, NY.

12. What is your favorite quote?

"You play to win the game, Hello, you play to win the game!" Just kidding, don't really have one....

13. What is the one thing that should be taught in school that isn’t already?

Financial literacy. Maybe that is taught but not when I was in high school. I had no sense about money, saving for the future. Maybe I was a naïve kid but they should do a better job at teaching that. I learned this the hard way.

Day 2 Prospect
Jet Fanatics
1. When and how did you become a Jets fan?

Thanksgiving Day, 1984. I was 3 years old. My dad and uncle were watching football and I had never seen it before. I asked what they were watching and they said it was football. As a joke, my uncle asked who I liked in the game. Dallas was playing someone, I don't remember. I asked who was playing in the game and I said I didn't like either of the teams. My dad asked, "Well who DO you like?" I asked if there were any teams that started with the letter "J" because my name starts with the letter J. The rest, as they say, is history. I often curse my parents for not naming me something else.

2. What is your favorite Jets moment?

Beating the Patriots in the playoffs in 2011. I was watching with a few friends and after the game was over I took everyone out to dinner, I was so elated. It had the feeling of good vs. evil.

3. Best Jets moment that you have seen live at the stadium?

When we won the division in '02, we blew the Packers out. I was hugging people I never met. Amazing atmosphere.

4. Current favorite Jet? All time favorite Jet?

Wilkerson is my current favorite. He just shows up and plays great, doesn't feel a need to say how great he is apart from what he does on the field. All time, I loved Chrebet. He was automatic on 3rd down.

5. What has been your biggest disappointment as a Jets fan?

Doug Brien made me sick. That was the day I came up with my user name. David Barrett had a couple of interceptions in that game. We were watching the game and my brother told me how bad he was. I said, "He doesn't have a ton of ability, but David Barrett is all heart."

6. How do you feel about today's athletes being out spoken regarding current events? (or example, Sheldon speaking about Ferguson and calling the cop a pig)

They have a right to their opinions, they are just subject to more scrutiny because they have a larger platform. Sometimes I agree with them and sometimes I disagree, but I don't think the right response to my disagreeing with them is to tell them to be less outspoken.

7. When not watching football, what are you doing?

The three things I want to be great at are my work, my golf, and my music. They take most of my time.

8. What is your favorite sports movie?

The Sandlot makes me laugh, Field of Dreams is great for reasons other than sports, Major League is great too.

9. What is your favorite movie regardless of genre?

The Royal Tenenbaums

10. What is your favorite song?

It changes all the time. Ain't no Mountain High Enough is a great song.

11. Where are you from?

Originally Allentown, PA, now living in Nashville, TN.

12. What is your favorite quote?

"If we don't behave as we believe, we end up believing as we behave." - Fulton Sheen

13. What is the one thing that should be taught in school that isn’t already?

I teach high school, so I have lots of opinions on this. More schools should have courses on good citizenship. Our school does a good job teaching about personal finance and understanding the ramifications of going into debt, and more schools should teach that sort of thing. Standardized tests do a lot of harm by restricting the curriculum.

1. When and how did you become a Jets fan?

I’m what you humans refer to as a “Creatures of Locker C-18”. We all worship the Jets. Here’s a photo (I’m on the far left in front):

Locker C-18 Creatures.jpg

There was reference to our society in a movie called “Men in Black II” (in the Locker room scene). If you look closely at that scene, up on the mountain side is a large New York Jets emblem. Here’s a picture from that scene:

Men In Black II Locker Room Scene.jpg

2. What is your favorite Jets moment?

Too numerous to enumerate.

3. Best Jets moment that you have seen live at the stadium?

We rarely leave the locker, but it would have to be the Jets victory over the Packers to win the AFC East in 2002.

4. Current favorite Jet? All time favorite Jet?

My current favorite Jet is Sheldon Richardson. In 1998, (the Jets bye week of the 1998 NFL playoffs) I met the late Dave Jennings parking his car and going to see a “Bugs Life”. I paid for his ticket. He was by far the best Jets commentator. But the honor goes to the incomparable “Little John Flowers” who continues through life with a very tough name.

5. What has been your biggest disappointment as a Jets fan?

Far too numerous to enumerate. I totally lost it when they only received a 4th round pick from the Chiefs for Herm Edwards (I know it turned out well).

6. How do you feel about today's athletes being out spoken regarding current event? (or example, Sheldon speaking about Ferguson and calling the cop a pig)

I believe in the freedom of press and the freedom of speech. Athletes are people too and have their own views and feelings. That being said, Sheldon could not have hurt me more. Why do you humans value social, geo-political, and economic advice from celebrities outside their area of expertise?

7. When not watching football, what are you doing?

I do what we all do in Locker C-18. All hail Kay!!

8. What is your favorite sports movie?

The documentary of the Jets Superbowl victory over the Colts.

9. What is your favorite movie regardless of genre?

The Ninth Configuration.

10. What is your favorite song?

“The In Crowd” Ramsey Lewis Trio; “Bold as Love” Jimi Hendrix; “Little Wing” Clapton, Winwood @ MSG; Sparks, Live at Leeds, version, too numerous to enumerate.

11. Where are you from?

A distant planet.

12. What is your favorite quote?

“This is this!” Robert DeNiro, The Deer Hunter (This isn’t anything else … this is this)

13. What is the one thing that should be taught in school that isn’t already?

I believe that the schools should offer parenting classes in HS. Would act as not only a deterrent, but as a guide for the future. Ditto.
Marriage classes, starting and running a business class, U.S. Constitutional law, and 50 year-old people should teach high school students: “50 things not to do before you’re 50.” Or “50 things that can permanently ruin your life.”

4. Current favorite Jet? All time favorite Jet?

My biggest disappointment as a Jets fan is the lack of finding a franchise Quarterback and lack of stability in the front office.

6. How do you feel about today's athletes being out spoken regarding current event? (or example, Sheldon speaking about Ferguson and calling the cop a pig)

1. When and how did you become a Jets fan?

Every kid in my neighborhood idolized Namath, as both a player and a playa, and I was no different. Great player with a howitzer for an arm, but when he snagged dates with Raquel Welch and Ann Margret, that took it to another level.

2. What is your favorite Jets moment?

I could say SBIII but I would be lying. Yes I watched that season and that SB, but frankly I was too young to fully digest and appreciate what they accomplished. So my answer is, when we beat Miami the second to last game of the season in I believe it was 98? (I'm bad with dates and too lazy to look it up), but its the year we won the division for the first time since the merger and the winner of that game was going to be in a position to win the division the following week. After all those years of being tormented by Dan Marino, I can't tell you how satisfying it was to go down there and kick his ass with so much on the line. Of course if we didn't win the following week in Buffalo we could have blown it, and that was immensely satisfying as well, but that win in Miami (I think it was a Monday night?), because of the Marino factor and the rivalry and having never won the division etc., was my favorite moment as a Jets fan, particularly when I believe it was Jason Ferguson who hit Marino and knocked the ball loose, then Chad Cascadden scooped it up and ran it in for a TD which pretty much iced the game. The 86' O'Brien/Marino shootout is a close second, when O.B. connected with Walker with no time left in regulation (euphoria!) then connected with Walker for a TD again in OT on a deep ball down the right side-line for a 51-45 win (euphoria x twenty!).

3. Best Jets moment that you have seen live at the stadium?

Its an obscure moment in the grand scheme of things, and again I am bad with dates so I don't even remember the year, but it was a play right before the half that was and is one of the greatest individual efforts I had ever seen live, and the added drama is that it was pouring rain and you could see the water flying up off the astroturf with his each long, loping stride. It was a pass play as time was running out, last play of the first half, O'Brien hits Al Toon with a crossing pattern at about midfield, maybe it was closer to the 40, and Toon proceeds to run past and around what seemed like the entire Saints defense, in a driving rain-storm, all the way to the endzone where he had one or two guys left to elude before he took it in for the score. I remember everyone in my section, or the few of us who hadn't run for cover, just sitting there with our jaws dropped and saying, WHOLLY SH*T, can you believe he just did that?!?!

4. Current favorite Jet? All time favorite Jet?

Sheldon Richardson and Joe Willie.

5. What has been your biggest disappointment as a Jets fan?

Blowing that halftime lead in Denver, AFC Title Game, with a calamity of errors that were completely uncharacteristic of that Parcels coached team, and it was mostly guys who never made mistakes and coughed up the football. I really felt like the better team lost that day and it hurt like hell that we didn't go to the Super Bowl. And of course Vinny blowing out his achilles in the 1st Qtr the following year made that missed opportunity that much more painful. That was our shot and we didn't get beat, we blew it.

6. How do you feel about today's athletes being out spoken regarding current event?

Never much cared for it and still don't, but I respect everyones right to speak their mind.

7. When not watching football, what are you doing?

Goofing off on the internet and watching a good (old) movie, documentary (history channel etc.) or news.

8. What is your favorite sports movie?

Rocky I, II or III and The Natural.

9. What is your favorite movie regardless of genre?

Angels With Dirty Faces (James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart) and Cool Hand Luke.

Favorite Comedy: The In-Laws (Peter Falk, Alan Arkin)

10. What is your favorite song?

Its a Shame (The Spinners) & Young Americans (David Bowie)

11. Where are you from?

NYC (lower eastside)

12. What is your favorite quote?

Its in my signature, because I think PC is very close to the Newspeak Orwell had in mind and its scary.

13. What is the one thing that should be taught in school that isn’t already?

The real history of Communism in the 20th Century, without sugarcoating it, so kids can see how precious freedom is and how easily you can lose it the moment you take it for granted.

Marvin and Tammi, though I think Diana Ross has one of the best voices that has ever been.
Agreed, very underrated because she's not a belter (Aretha, Streisand, Whitney, Mariah, Adele etc.) and thats what the critics gravitate towards, but there's another form of greatness and it has to do with melody, pitch, rhythm and tone, singers like Diana Ross and Karen Carpenter, they can take any song and make it a hit, they can sing an ad from the yellow pages and make it sound good. They may not have raw power, but they have wonderfully melodic voices.

As for the record, I like both versions, but if I had to pick one its the Diana Ross long version for me.
