I actually liked the pick when we made it. I liked taking a risk on a QB who showed franchise QB-like ability one year at Penn State. The Jets needed a QB, and he had some potential.
But obviously it turned out to be a terrible pick. After seeing the Raiders cut him so quickly, it doesn’t appear as though this guy has NFL ability.
Sad day for him & a waste for the Jets. maybe the mets can use him in the outfield with Tebow
You know what, if he makes the Patriots roster, I'd bet they'll turn him into a solid player. He has the tools, he just needs to figure it out mechanically.
I haven't seen anything in the media regarding Hack to the Patriots. My response was personal opinion. Given his success running that system, getting to learn from Brady and Belichick, if he has any chance of success in this league. NE is the place.
????? Much more so than he would have had with the "QB whisper Gruden"......
Tebow was never a QB, complete opposite from hack, Hack has the physical tools, Tebow had the mental tools, and NE has unfortunately had much more success than failures with lesser talented players .
From PFT:
"But Patriots coach Bill Belichick apparently sees enough in Hackenberg that he’d like to take a look. With Tom Brady about to turn 41, the Patriots wouldn’t mind having a young quarterback they could develop. This year’s seventh-round pick, Danny Etling, may be that young quarterback, but perhaps Hackenberg will get an opportunity to compete in training camp as well.
And every Jets fan has to be just a little bit fearful that Hackenberg will become the heir apparent to Tom Brady, and will torment the Jets for years to come."
I don't believe, my opinion of course, that Hackenberg will ever make it as starting QB on any roster in the NFL. I've said it before numerous times and Tony mentioned it above. He does not have the mental capacity to be an NFL QB. I've heard this from sources in the past that I felt, at the time, were reliable. He was, admittedly, getting help with his mechanics but that wasn't his real issue. I am not worried that he will terrorize the Jets ever as a Patriot QB. He might switch to another position and find success in the NFL but it won't happen as a QB.
Yea, as a backup qb and holder.
I can't remember how many people here thought Sanchez would come back and terrorize the Jets after his release. Hackenburg was a desperate pick at a desperate time. History shows that the Jets don't have a good track record of actually developing QB's, so the Hack pick had almost no chance of success.
Nice to see that Darnold already appears more developed than Hack, Smith or Simms ever was.....I also believe less is more when dealing with Darnold from a coaching POV.
