Hams Best and Worst Draft Picks Per Round

ROUND 1

BEST: NY Jets, DL, Quinnen Williams

May not have been the biggest steal in RD 1, he wasn't, but IMO he was the best player in the draft, the entire draft, period.

WORST: NY Giants, QB, Daniel Jones

If he turns into a FQB all of the critics owe Gettleman an apology, but after passing on Josh Allen and Ed Oliver nothing else (but a FQB) will suffice.

ROUND 2

BEST: Seattle Seahawks, WR, DK Metcalf

I suspected he might get the 'workout warrior' tag and slide in RD 1, but the very bottom of RD 2 (64) was ridiculous and the Hawks were smart to pounce.

WORST: Cincinnati Bengals, TE, Drew Sample

I was disappointed (to say the least) when we took Wesco in RD 4. I thought it was a reach. But this was like taking Wesco in RD 2.

ROUND 3

BEST: NY Jets, ER, Jachai Polite

There were still some terrific prospects on the board in RD 3 so I could have chosen a half-dozen, but when the 2018 season ended you would have had a hard time finding even one draft analyst of note who did not have JP projected in RD 1. Heck, pre combine a big number of them even had Polite ahead of Brian Burns and Montez Sweat, and if you watch his highlight videos you can see why. Based purely on football and production, this kid was an absolute beast at Florida. Granted it's his own fault that he slid; bad interviews, too defensive, and a slow 40 due to putting on about 15 added pounds and getting out of shape. The good part is that he owned it and has since said he had no-one to blame but himself. That guarantees absolutely nothing, but it's a good sign in my view, and if we get the player I watched at Florida, this could be the steal of the draft, not just RD 3.

WORST: Minnesota Vikings, RB, Alexander Mattison

IMO Mattison was a late round pick or a UDFA, and there were still much better RB's on the board here, for example Justice Hill.

Dishonorable mention: Cody Barton

====

ROUND 4

BEST: Arizona Cardinals, WR, Hakeem Butler

Some analysts had Butler as a late 1 or early 2. It was unimaginable that someone would steal him in RD 4.

Honorable Mentions: Justice Hill & Antonio Bryant.

WORST: NY Jets, TE/FB, Trevon Wesco

The Jets traded down twice in RD 4. The first time they missed on Justice Hill, a much better Scat-Back than Trenton Cannon. The second time they missed on Austin Bryant, a player I long had tagged as one of the most underrated players in the draft. We could have had Williams & Williams (and an underrated Henry Anderson) on the D-line, Mosley and Williamson at ILB, with Polite and Bryant wrecking havoc off the edges. Instead we drafted a TE/FB I never heard of. I hope he steps up and proves me wrong.

====

ROUND 5

BEST:
Detroit Lions, CB, Amani Oruwariye

6' 1"/205 and ran a 4.47 at the combine. Most draft analysts had him tabbed in RD 3 so to snatch him in RD 5 was a steal for the Lions.

WORST: LA Chargers, QB, Easton Stick

I understand the idea. Draft a small school stud at QB and hope you can develop him, but in no way, shape or form would I categorize Stick as a small school stud. Unless their intention was to hope they could find an adequate backup, but someone who will never be the heir to Phil Rivers throne, this pick was a complete throw-away.

====

ROUND 6

BEST: Cincinnati Bengals, RB, Rodney Anderson

If Anderson didn't tear his ACL and have a history with injuries, he would have been a 2nd RD Pick. For RA it's all about the medicals. If he stays healthy the Bengals will have stolen a feature back in the 6th RD. Considering his history that's a BIG IF, but it was worth a shot near the bottom of round six.

WORST: Minnesota Vikings, S, Marcus Epps

Either this guy was the king of all sleepers or the Vikings took someone practically nobody has ever heard of.

====

ROUND 7

BEST: Dallas Cowboys, RB, Mike Weber

They already have one of the best feature backs in football. What they can use is a solid #2 who can lengthen Elliott's career. Weber can be that guy.

WORST: Houston Texans, FB, Cullen Gillaspia

Former walk-on at linebacker who is converting to FB. First of all, most teams rarely even use FB's anymore, secondly if they do they don't draft projects.
