taking Allen would be such a Browns thing to do....

I like the scenario in which the Browns take Barkley at 1 and then take whichever of the best QBs is there at 4.

I want no part of a QB that is undersized, played in the Big 12 and rarely plays under center. I'm surely not trading up for him. That would be a Jets thing to do though.

I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I was the first one to mention the wisdom of that in the very first mock I posted, and I got killed for it. My logic at the time, and I'm still not sure it isn't true, is that all of the TOP 4 QB's have a FQB upside but there are also concerns, there's no MORTAL LOCK in this group, so the Browns would be wise to take Barkley at #1 then take the highest rated QB on their board who falls to them at #4, which is unlikely to be the forth of the bunch because the Colts are not taking a QB at #3 and they didn't take a QB at #1. I did exactly that in the first mock I submitted and you'd have thought I committed a triple homicide.

Thats fine, but I think you are badly underestimating this kid. For one thing, there have been studies, analytics if you will, like the football version of Sabermetrics, and one of the primary indicators of success for a QB prospect from college to the pros is Comp%, and a plus 70% is considered outstanding. Two years in a row means its not a fluke. But then you have to research it closer, is it dink & dunks or downfield passing? With Mayfield its mostly latter. Thats why his supporters in the draft community are comparing him to guys like Brees and Favre, whereas his detractors see an undersized QB with a bad attitude who reminds them of Manziel. Like I said, he's polarizing, not the prototype and he's had his problems, you either love him or hate him, but don't kid yourself, there are REAL REASONS to love him as a player. He's not the prototype, but of the TOP 4 QB's, he clearly played the best football in 2017, by a lot.

Bottom line is there are many questions on these top QB's in the draft...seems more than usual. That is why I want KC Yes questions there also but at least we have something good. He may end up as our KC masterpiece. :global (14):

Ham, I am not sold on Mayfield. I just don;t think he will develop into a good QB. This is just how I feel. I like better options in Rd#2. I would rather take an G/C with our 2nd Rd picks. Besides QB, our OL stinks! Besides our OL, our HC stinks!

Vs. some of the worst defenses in the country. And BTW, Geno had similar comp. % his senior year vs the same shitty defenses. And I watched a lot of games where he couldn't fit the ball in tight windows, but was really accurate when guys were uncovered. Most of his games in the Big 12 were basically 7v7 type drills. Oh yeah, there are REAL REASONS to hate him as a human.

Another thing I saw Casserly has us picking the OU child. Well he picked Bowles and Mac so I would do the opposite of what he thinks.

Because I'm old and stubborn and have spent some time studying college players this year, something I don't normally do but I had the time, so I did. I can only say that I personally would not trade up for any of the QBs in this years draft class. Even on a good year, and this one is over hyped in my opinion, the draft is always a gamble. In all fairness the Jets aren’t the only ones that have trouble making “ The Right “ pick. Here are a few 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round QB picks that I was able to find that were BUST. I didn’t put Geno, Petty, or Hack on this list, but, in my opinion they were bust also. Let's take whoever is available at 6 that can improve our "O" line and pick a QB later in the draft like maybe, but not necessarily, Rudolph.

Josh Freeman ,Bucs'
Mark Sanchez ,Jets
JaMarcus Russell ,Oakland
Vince Young ,Tennessee
Matt Leinart ,Arizona
Byron Leftwich ,Jaguars
David Carr ,Texans
Joey Harrington ,Lions
Tim Couch ,Browns
Akili Smith ,Bengals
Cade McNown ,Bears'
Ryan Leaf ,Chargers
Heath Shuler ,Washington
Rick Mirer ,Seahawks
David Klingler ,Bengals
Andre Ware ,Lions
Kelly Stouffer ,Cardinals/ held out the entire season, rights traded to Seahawks
Todd Blackledge ,Chiefs
Art Schlichter ,Colts
Jack Thompson ,Bengals
Jerry Tagge ,Packers

I bet Art Schlichter would give you 3:5 odds he could make it in the NFL. :global (5):

The only player on that list that I think had talent and was a victim of circumstances is David Carr. He had no chance with that offensive line. He was shell shocked. If he had gone to a better team, he had a chance to be a decent player in the league.

When Sanchez started going down hill, there were a few who jumped ship and wondered why we did not take Freeman in the Draft. Of course after a few more games, they jumped backed on Sanchez's bandwagon.

Guess it wouldn't have made much difference.

I think it might be more than our pick and a 3rd, but not as much as you're thinking. Maybe our 1 and first 2, maybe also a 2 next year, but it really depends on what happens - with 2 strong QBs left for Denver and us, and knowing the Browns won't take another, they lose a little leverage unless a third team is in the mix - which of course could happen. I could see the Cardinals (though I think they prefer a veteran) or even Buffalo trying to get in.

My bigger fear is the Colts take a QB, 3 off the board in 3 picks and we'refighting Denver for the remaining top QB.

Buffalo would be the team I am most concerned with. They can offer 2 first a second and 3rd and still walk away from the draft with their full 7 selections. I agree Arizona will go the veteran route. They really have no choice. No QB under contract, Fitz likely playing his last season. I could see them signing 2 QBs, maybe Taylor/Bridgewater. They don't have much cap space .

it would be nice to see the 4 QB's going before us. we would then have a 50/50 shot at landing Barkley.
