Dilard over Taylor and Williams?
'Splain please, Lucy.

Positional Value

Dillard is the only pure LT in the draft who is guaranteed to remains at LT, and he's the best pass-pro tackle in this draft too.

He protects his QB like a Bear protects its Cubs.

As for Taylor, I love him but he played RT in College and you don't usually see guys switch from RT too LT in the NFL. I have to believe if he was a LT he would have been playing LT at Florida. So he's a terrific player, but he doesn't have the same positional value as Dillard.

Lastly, most people are projecting Jonah Williams to OG at the next level. Could be a great OG, but again it doesn't even sniff LT for positional value.

Daniel Jeremiah is a well respected former scout/analyst who agrees with you on Dilliard. I’d love to get him for Beach’s eventual replacement. But it’s not going to happen. We’re taking one of the defensive studs. Stone Cold Lead Pipe Lock.

Unless we trade down....of course.

Little surprised the Miss St C Elgton Jenkins is not in the top 50. I guess the C position doesn't have much value to some, but I guarantee it will to Sam Darnold if we don't get him a good one.

Just missed, but I definitely have him as a second rounder. If he slides to the Jets early 3 it's a steal.

If we trade down very far he won't be there anyway. I project that he will get snatched up quickly. He's without doubt the best LT in the draft.

This is such an amazing draft for edge rushers, similar to last year for QBs. It is falling right for the Jets for a change.

He seems to be picking up some steam of late. I hadn’t even seen his name in the early mocks, but I’m seeing him more often in the first round discussion. Jonah Williams was the top guy for a while, but that could change by late April.

Williams' stock has dropped a little because he is a little on the small side for a tackle and struggles a bit against speed rushers, but, he's still considered a safe pick.

I’m a bit of an offensive line nerd watching football. I played a few years in high school at Guard. I’ve watched a good chunk of Alabama football the last few years on TV, and Jonah Williams looks like an above average NFL Guard to me. Maybe even an eventual pro bowler.

Even if he doesn’t work out as a Tackle, he’s still got good value as a player.

Actually I believe PFF, I'm not sure so don't quote me, said that at the NFL level he would likely fit better as a guard. I only saw him play once or twice so I don't really have a point of view on him. I watched Dillard a lot and he takes the job of protecting his QB more than serious.

His pass-pro technique is impeccable. You literally don't have to coach him up in pass protection. Perhaps in run blocking he needs to get stronger and his technique can be refined, and he knows it, has been working on it all off season and it showed at the Senior Bowl and Combine, but as a pass protecting LT he tries not to let anyone get close enough to even breathe on his QB, and he mostly succeeds. This video is a clinic on pass protection.

Yep, that's pretty much my take. To bad we won't get him.

Just saw an ESPN report that “industry speculation” is that the Jets will take Josh Allen if they run the 3-4 defense.

I'm about to say something that will blow some peoples minds, but I think Bosa is a better fit at 4-3 DE and Allen is a better fit at 3-4 OLB.

So if we're staying in a base 3-4 I will not be at all disappointed if Bosa goes 1 or 2 and Allen is there for us at 3.

I know most Jets fans prefer Bosa and I would too if we were switching to a 4-3, he'll be a 4-3 DE assassin, but I think Allen's skills translate more to 3-4 OLB than Bosa's. I'm big on scheme fits and I could be wrong about this one, but I see Bosa as a better 4-3 scheme fit and Allen as a better 3-4 fit.

THAT SAID:

You know what would be interesting, and possibly beneficial for us, and there's a real chance it could happen?

Murray goes #1 to the Cardinals

Q goes #2 to the 49ers (who reportedly love Q)

Then there we are sitting at #3 with BOTH Bosa and Allen on the board.

If we're really staying in a base 3-4, it's important to note that the Raiders play a base 4-3.

I would call the Raiders and insist we are taking Bosa at #3 unless they cough-up their 2nd RD Pick (#35 Overall) to swap 1's

Gruden and Mayock are shrewd, I think they both know Bosa is a better 4-3 DE than Allen. Bosa can actually reproduce Mack for them at 4-3 DE, or something close, whereas Allen is a better fit if they played a 3-4. It's possible they can take Allen and find out the D-line is a bad fit for him in the NFL, but there is NO CHANCE that can happen with Bosa.

So if we play it smart there's a chance, JUST A CHANCE, that we can recoup that early 2 and still draft Josh Allen who IMO can be as much of an impact edge rusher at 3-4 OLB as Bosa can be at 4-3 DE. I think the Raiders would bite because they have THREE 1's, so they can afford to lose their 2 to move up and get Bosa, a sure thing at 4-3 DE, even if a 2 is above chart value, but not obscenely above chart value.

If we land Allen and manage to acquire draft capital, we would be winners of the draft before it even got into the 2nd round.

You might be right about scheme fit. I like Bosa a little bit more than Allen as a player, but if we’re 3-4 base next year, Allen sure looks the part. I can envision him coming off that edge from the OLB spot. And racking up silly sack numbers.

I'm not saying Nick Bosa cannot succeed at 3-4 OLB, or that Josh Allen cannot succeed at 4-3 DE. I'm pretty sure both guys can adapt to either position and make an impact. I just think Nick's ideal position, where you can maximize his skill set and production, is at 4-3 DE, and I believe the opposite is true of Josh Allen, ideally he will be a 3-4 OLB at the next level. I can see why the 49ers or Raiders would prefer Bosa to Allen, they both play a base 4-3 where Nick Bosa is an ideal fit, but if I'm the Jets GM, HC and DC and the whole 3-4 thing is not a smoke-screen, I can see why they would prefer Allen to Bosa.
