Colts over Patriots

I know what you're thinking because its been drilled into your head for months by the media, the Patriots want to run Indy out of the building as revenge for deflate-gate, and this week the media has that narrative in overdrive, but thats precisely why I say ... beware of any NFL team that is being portrayed as the designated punching bags.

If I know anything about this league and the pride of professional athletes, the Colts will be more than ready for the challenge come Sunday night and they might even have an ass-whuppin' in store for the Patriots, but thats only if Andrew Luck plays, they can't win if they bring a knife to a gunfight, but if Luck plays I believe you will see a visibly inspired Colts team on Sunday, cause THEY KNOW the whole world is portraying them as the sacrificial lambs being led to the slaughter.

With the media talking about NE running up the score, at the very least take the Colts and the 10 Points.

Interesting... as that would be a major upset just based on their previous matchups since Luck took over, never mind the payback aspect.

Funny but I was just thinking that the Colts players must be pretty pissed by the way they are being portrayed as an after thought this week. Can't wait to see the first quarter Sunday night...

Just an out there thought- Could it be that karma is about to do a major pole reversal based on all the giddy revenge filled hate pouring out of Pats Nation after each win.

Treating them like an after-thought would be an upgrade. They are literally being portrayed as sacrificial lambs. The media is talking about how badly the Patriots want to run up the score on this team and humiliate them, maybe hang 60 or 70 on them, thats how disrespectful the narrative is this week and every Colts player is hearing it.

This is not college where Alabama can essentially name the score verses William & Mary. There are no William & Mary's in this league. If you tell a professional team, ALL WEEK, that the other team is going to run up the score and embarrass you, I guarantee you that team, if they have an ounce of professional pride, will play that game like their hair is on fire.

C'mon Ham. You just want to start another of those, "So now we have a pissed off Pats team to contend with" threads :)

IDK, Ham. The options for the Pats are hard to stop. However, since the Colts' coach earned his contract by coaching his ass off during cancer treatment, maybe they have some "Willis Reed" in the tank; if we agree this is the Colts "SB".

Add the "rope-a-dope" to Beilchick's palate; let the Colts have space between the 20's for the first half. No way I try to match that intensity with power football. Let them fight for their lives by themselves. :) Once they're down, they are staying down.

I went back and looked an almost identical situation (Pats seeking vindication, indignant over being exposed), which was their first meeting with the Jets following Spygate.

After Spygate, which was Week 1 @ Jets in 2007, the Pats got the same chip on their shoulders and went on a historic tear.

Prior to their next meeting with the Jets, Week 14 @ Gillette, they were absolutely clobbering teams on a weekly basis.

During that 13 Game span, they averaged 38 PPG and their average margin of victory was 21 Points. Take away two three point games that they played and they were beating teams by 31 PPG and making it look easy.

The Jets, on the other hand, were in the midst of another abysmal season. They finished the season 4-12 and marched into NE the night of December 16 2007 with Kellen Clemens at QB and with a 3-10 record.

The Jets were installed as anywhere from 21 to 23 Points underdogs that night, depending on the source, and the whole entirety of the media was saying out loud that the Jets are walking into an ambush, that NE will run up the score and beat them by 50, they will look to make this as humiliating a defeat as the Jets have ever experienced in franchise history.

That was the media narrative going into that game, just like this one, and to a man the Jets players heard it all that week, that they were about to be publicly sodomized, only unlike Indy they didn't even have the benefit of being home, they had to travel to NE and suffer this epic beatdown in front of 50,000 rabid Patriots fans.

So what happened?

The Jets held the Patriots offense to their lowest points output of the season and lost a hard-fought game 20-10, and the final score is deceiving because it remained a one score game until the Pats kicked a FG with 3:21 left to make it a two score game. On the subsequent drive the Jets had a chance to cut it back to 7 but Mike Nugent missed a makable FG and it ended 20-10, and what was supposed to be a public execution turned into one of the toughest games the Patriots played all year until the Giants upended their dreams of going unbeaten in the Super Bowl.

Oh yeah and if you took the Jets and the points that night you won, easily, without even breaking a sweat.

I would be shocked. Shocked.
Read my prior post, Sack, there's something about professional athletes in general, but particularly professional football players, that most fans just don't understand. These are alpha males who pride themselves on being tough guys. There is something that clicks in their psyche's when you spend a whole week telling them the other team doesn't just want to beat you, they want to run up the score and publicly humiliate you. These guys take that as a direct challenge to their manhood.

I won't be shocked if the Colts win, but I will be shocked if they don't unleash every ounce of hell they are physically capable of unleashing on the Patriots in this game. It may or may not be enough to win, but I expect Indy to cover.

Oh, I understand where you are coming from. I certainly never made it to that level. I played DIII offensive line in college, so I'm pretty far removed from that.

But as much as the Colts may see it as a challenge to their manhood, the Pats have plenty of motivation for this game themselves.

As they did verses the Jets on December 16 2007

Read that post, Sack, its a little long, but its quite informative, that situation practically mirrored this one, only we didn't have Andrew Luck, we had Kellen Clemens, and we weren't home (like the Colts this week) for what the whole world was calling an epic ambush the Jets were walking into, we had to take that impending beatdown in NE.

Colts are a mess, I doubt they keep it close. I hope we beat the Redskins and then we will talk some smack about the Pats. I wan't them bad, and I want to thoroughly dominated them. So, I hope we both win and then we beat them; fair and square.

You saw that, huh? :thumbs-up:

I should have at least given an honorable mention to the Saints as my Week 6 upset specials.

If you guys look, you'll see that I'm the only guy who took them in our Yahoo Pick'em Pools (thats what Bronx referenced), so I had a hunch they would win outright, desperate team and nobody was giving them a shot or picking them, but they still have Brees who is capable of a a big night and the Saints were home for a primetime game and tired of hearing how much they suck, so I just had a feeling they were going to play their best game and the Falcons were due for a letdown.

i just hope that with the news the redskins will be fielding a "MASH unit" sunday, our boys don't become the upset special week 6..

Honestly J13, I would be more concerned about that if we were 4-0 coming out of the bye and we didn't recently letdown at home verses Philly for what was really an unacceptable (i.e. disgraceful) performance in the first half (woke-up in the second half, but it was too little too late). Its inconceivable too me that they could have another letdown at home with that game still so fresh in their memories. Everything I'm hearing from the players tells me they are taking the Redskins dead serious, and thats a good thing. There's a fine line between fear and respect. You don't want to fear your opponent, but it helps to respect your opponent, thats what keeps you sharpe and on your toes, you know you have to be at your best.
