"Hard Nosed" Jets players?

What??? I'm not following why you are belittling (LOL?) what Martin did as a Jet?, which was rewarded with him being voted into the NFLHOF... please explain

With the most carries of any Jet RB how many Jet records does he hold?? What was your favorite playoff game that Martin had as a Jet?? If not for Paul Hackett his college coach no way would he have compiled enough to get to the HOF.. His first 6 years in the league he was under 4 ypc for half of them. Do you know who out rushed him on less carries on the 1-15 1996 Jets?? Martin was on a Super Bowl team that year?? What age group are you in have you seen all the Jet RB's?? If you did you wouldn't be asking any questions..LOL

Was Martin the greatest RB of all time? No. Is he one of the best to play the game? Yes. Your logic is silly. Martin has the numbers. The single biggest reason he is a HOF player is because he was CONSISTENT! Not flashy but got you what was needed every single day.

Players go into the HOF for different reason. He without questions deserves to be there.

Using Hackett as an excuse is just reaching. Everyone player has someone they can point to or several people they can point to in aiding their career.

Is Steve Young not good because he had Jerry Rice? Enought already. Be thankful he was on our team.

The Steve Young analogy makes no sense.. Here's what I mean about Hackett, remember the last game of the 2001 season against the Raiders?? Martin wasn't doing anything and Jordan went in and ran for a 46 yd td and never saw another carry.. If you were the OC wouldn't you give him another carry?? In 2003 going into Dec Martin had no tds and around 800 yds.. Hackett's solution?? 125 carries for Martin and just one for Jordan to finish the season.. The Raiders had offered a 3rd rd pick for Jordan that would have been a perfect time to showcase him for a higher pick. But no the compilers stats were more important then the team just like in 2002 when he wasn't sat with not one but 2 high ankle sprains.. Or 2005 when pain finally sat him down from compiling anymore in his quest for a 1,000 yd season..

This is a player that hated football and thought the Jets were the bottom of the barrel as a NFL team.. This is a player that screwed the team that drafted him in collusion with a HC that put a poison pill in his contract that made it impossible to resign him.. The NFL outlawed it after that.. One other thing as a fan I think you have every right to like or dislike any player in Jets history so don't tell me I should be thankful when my team gives up a 1st and 3rd pick and the highest contract for a RB who avg 3.5 ypc and 14 yds rushing in a AFCCG and the next season fumbles in game 1 and we lose our QB for the year..:smiley-taunt005:

Listen, As a kid I shook Emerson Boozer's hand the year that they won the SB so I'm very familiar with every RB that has ever been a Jet right up to this day...

Stats can be used to make any point if you have an agenda. Yes, Adrian Murrell, who I loved BTW, had a better year then Martin in 1996, so what. I could point out that Martin had a better career YPC Avg then Murrell which also makes no point at all.

Martin was a durable, consistent workhorse who for many years apparently played hurt rather then sit on the bench. That's why I thought he should be in this conversation...

I respect your opinion, even though I don't agree with it, thanks for answering my question! GO JETS!

I dont think you can blame Martin for any of that. He was a very unselfish player. And now you are blaming Martin for Vinny blowing his achilles? It was a muffed handoff. Either player could be at fault for that. Martin hardly ever fumbled. Extremely reliable with the ball. Another reason he was so good.

One could also argue if Martin was on better teams or different offenses he would have put up even better numbers. He was a very underrated receiver as well. Should have had much bigger numbers catching the ball.

He has said he never wanted anyone else to get the ball that's yeah that's real unselfish..LOL Since you seem to be a devout Martinette here is the Martinette hand book written during the Edwards regime by Sperm Edwards on JN..

The Martinette Handbook of Excuses

1. At all points, recite the string of 1000-yard seasons, no matter how irrelevant it is to the current season, game, drive, or play being discussed.
2. When the line opens up a gaping, 15-yard lane & Martin runs 10 yards through it, comment on the great 10-yd run he had. Dismiss the idea that a faster RB gets through that lane faster & maybe gets another 10-20 (or even 50) yards in the same situation.
3. Insist that running ramped over 10 weaklings in 2004 is the true mark of a rushing champion. sh*tting the bed in playoff games is irrelevant.
4. Always refer to him as the 2004 Rushing Champion and/or a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer, as though it has some bearing on how he&#8 217;s running currently.
5. Glow about his 4.0 career ypc as though 4.0 was the minimum benchmark for greatness rather than minimum benchmark of acceptability. Also ignore that he has failed to reach this &#8 220;average&#8 221; in most of his seasons with the Jets.
6. When it is brought up that he sucked in certain games, always say that no one else could&#8 217;ve done any better. This is key, since it is impossible to prove otherwise. Now mention someone off the charts like Barry Sanders or Jim Brown as follows: &#8 220;Maybe [insert name] could&#8 217;ve done better,&#8 221; as though he is the only RB more dangerous than Curtis in NFL history.
7. When a defender touches Curtis&#8 217; thigh or shoulder with 2 fingers, nod in agreement like a dashboard doggie when the announcers say, &#8 220;&#8 230;Martin breaks a tackle&#8 230;&#8 221;
8. If Curtis is running like crap, insist that he is a "warrior" taking one for the team. If there are good, healthy RB&#8 217;s on the sideline itching to get into the game, say that they &#8 220;couldn&#8 217;t hold Martin&#8 217;s jock.&#8 221;
9. When Curtis is running like crap, blame the offensive line. &#8 220;The line played like sh!t&#8 221; and &#8 220;There was no place for him to run&#8 221; are useful quips. As &#8 220;evidence&#8 221; be sure to state the &#8 220;fact&#8 221; that Martin has the best &#8 220;vision&#8 221; in the NFL so if he couldn&#8 217;t find a hole, neither could anyone else..
10. Discuss what a great guy he is, as though that has any bearing on running speed or ability to break tackles on Sundays.
11. When citing his career #&#8 217;s in the post-season only give gross totals (182-793-4.4) that get badly skewed because of his first one back in 1996. Do not ever draw attention to his inability to get into the end zone even once in the Jets&#8 217; last 5 post-season games, nor that the last touchdown he did get in a playoff game was when John Elway & Pepper Johnson were still playing, when he got 14 yds on 13 carries & didn&#8 217;t even look that good.
12. If Curtis stays in the game despite injury or fatigue, with healthy, well-rested playmakers on the bench, & note that he is a &#8 220;warrior&#8 221; and is somehow a &#8 220;team player&#8 221; because of it. (I know this is is basically the same as #8 , but this point can never be stressed enough times).
13. Insist that despite all the accolades the announcers give him for doing very ordinary things with the football in hand, that Curtis is the most underrated RB in NFL history.
14. If you must predict 1300 yards for Curtis in any season, do so without predicting 320+ carries to do so.
15. Dismiss his lack of a single run of more than 25 yards despite 371 carries as being indicative of nothing.
16. Yards are more important & more impressive accomplishments than touchdowns.
17. Ignore that 32 of his 90 touchdowns (and 5 of his 8 playoff touchdowns) came in his first two NFL seasons for the friggin' Patriots.
18. If Martin doesn&#8 217;t get a lot of yards from the get-go, it&#8 217;s because he needs lots of carries to get in his groove. If he gets plenty of carries & still is unimpressive, revert back to the &#8 220;it&#8 217;s because there was nowhere to run & Barry Sanders would&#8 217;ve fared no better&#8 221; mantra.
19. Against tougher opponents, when Martin underperforms, say it would have been fruitless to try giving someone else the rock for a few series like every other team does since it is a physical impossibility for anyone to have done better than Martin in any situation. In those same situations, say &#8 220;who would you rather have, Martin or [insert name of other team&#8 217;s stiff]&#8 221; even though the &#8 220;stiff&#8 221; didn&#8 217;t get a cap-breaking $50M contract that renders him uncuttable & retaining young backfield talent an impractical luxury.
20. Make sure you label all critics as Jet haters. They are usually the same imbeciles that dare criticize Herm Edwards, too.

You obviously have your option and you have a right to it. I don't need to argue with you about Martin. His play stands for itself. You don't get into the HOF as fast as he did by not being a great player.

You obviously have an agenda for whatever reason.

Thanks most Martinette's don't think I should have my own opinion.. That opinion is based on every RB I have seen since 1960 when the Jets were the Titans when I was 16.. Part of the HOF is political and Martin was a altar boy compared to todays thug type players.. He made 5 pro bowls and 1 all pro (2 of which he avg 3.5 and 3.6 ypc) Mark Gastineau made 5 Pro Bowls and was a 3 time All Pro and he will never get in.. And look at Joe Klecko he doesn't deserve it?? If you let Jet fans pick who should be in do you think the majority would say Martin over Klecko?? For the most carries in Jet history you would think he would own most of the records but he doesn't except for most yards in a season thanks to 2 overtime games in 2004..

Most TD's in a season...Thomas Jones
Most yds in a regular season game..Thomas Jones
Most yds in a playoff Game..Freeman McNeil
Longest run from the LOS.. Thomas Jones 71 yds 2nd highest Freeman McNeil 69 yds
Most yds in a Super Bowl.. Matt Snell 121 yds
Best TD to carry ratio.. 11 tds on 120 carries Emerson Boozer... Longest TD run in the playoffs S.Greene 53 yds
Best Career ypc avg 4.5.... Freeman McNeil
Most TD catches by a RB.. A tie between Freeman and Boozer at 12..
Most catches in a single game 17 Clark Gaines

To be fair the records that Thomas Jones has were Martins first. He got those during one magical season.

Again in my opinion Martin is in the HOF for his consistent play not for how many records he has.
